Dual Pistols/Trick Arrow: Corr or Def?

I have a level 27 TA/DP defender right now, and I'm debating whether to reroll him as a DP/TA Corruptor (and make him a Hero once GR hits). Never having played redside seriously, I can't evaluate for myself whether it's worth it to switch ATs for the damage boost.

Will I notice a decrease in my debuff effectiveness?

Will I notice a marked increase in damage?

Is there ANY difference in survivability?

Will I acquire endurance problems suddenly which, as a defender, I can kinda ignore?

Thanks for any help and advice you guys can give me.

It does make a difference in your debuff totals, but I don't think you will notice it much.

You will do noticeably more damage, especially with scourge (especially when you are teamed.)

Survivability is basically the same.

@Dysc, on virtue:
Virtue blues: Overnight (DP/MM), Kid Ridiculous (FC/rad), Panorama (Ill/time)
Virtue reds: Block Party (SS/SD), Goldcrush (earth/fire), Deadwire (claws/elec), Snowcrush (ice/kin)

I guess I'm a bit confused why you would want to go Corruptor when your Defender is going to put out better numbers then the Corruptor would. Granted the numbers are not game ending.. But why not go Rogue with the Defender. Its pretty much six of one or half a dozen of another. Might as well stick with what you got and not waste your time redoing it for lesser numbers to boot.

End result you get to go Rogue.. You get to come to Villain side and you have a 50 to work with and help you out on villain side. I think that is a win / win situation for you.

I would stick with what you have bud. I have a TA/DP and I prefer it that way...I would of went insane if I had to wait that long for Slick and EMP arrow. Once you get some nice recharge in there you should be golden.

I don't see how anyone could stand drawing and redrawing two different types of weapons.

Go Corruptor so you can pick Mace Mastery

TA on a Defender does present a fair amount of heightened debuff as compared to its function as a secondary on a Cor. And in combination with DP you can do a variety of things like ignite your own oil slicks, as well as stack debuff via cryo or toxic rounds. The overall effect will be stronger when used by a defender.

As a corruptor, you'll find that your damage does increase. But, until scourge kicks in, only as noticably as debuff decreases. Scourge would push your damage high enough that if you enjoy the build but want to do more damage instead of more debuff - then a reroll is worth it. If you prefer stronger debuff, Defender is for you. Both methods of playing have their merit.

Survivability can be achieved on either side to the same approximate extent. Especially with the use of Epic/Patron Powers. That is all in personal preference and precise toon build.

Endurance - Depending on playstyle and build, yes. You may acquire some endurance issues. I have always noticed endurance being eaten faster by my Cors then my Defenders. Partially because of the way Vigilance works. But also due to the fact that Cors are also typically treated as a more aggressive AT and I have often seen them built with more of an emphasis on damage. Meaning a faster attack chain that potentially consumes more endurance faster. Both ATs are capable enough of this though - Again that comes to player preference.

Personally, I'd favor a TA/DP Defender (Will be making one come GR). Higher debuff numbers, strong internal power synergy and the ability to stack debuffs with the one that suits the situation all combine to be very effective. I also find the redraw to be hilarious - It can slow you down a little, but hilarious never the less. For those who dislike double redraw, a Rad or Cold/DP would be two examples of potentially more suitable builds.

Hope that helps your decision some. :-)

I haven't tried DP with a Corr or a Def, but I tried a TA/Archery Defender awhile back and ended up deleting him. I started an Archery/TA Corr after Archery ported over and I've loved the combo ever since. Yes, I don't feel like the debuffing arrows are doing as much for the team, but I get to kill stuff and love seeing "Scourge" pop up over the bad guy's heads.

I'd go Corruptor for your DP/TA, but really, I'd just go Archery/TA so you only have one weapon.

There'll be a decrease in debuffs. I'd doubt you'll notice it.

There'll be an increase in damage. I'd expect you to notice that, esp. the big SCOURGE! signs popping up over mobs' heads.

Since Defenders have no Def-based APP armour option, and Corruptors do (with Scorp Shield), I'd expect the Corruptor to be vastly more survivable if you go for the S/L softcap.

With Corrs, I always plan on getting Stamina at 20 and slotting a couple of EndReds in my most endurance-expensive powers, and that should see you fine.

If you team heavily then the decrease in debuffs might outweigh the increase in damage, but otherwise the Corr should have it. However, beyond the S/L softcap option, there's not really enough of a difference between the two to justify starting from scratch.

As an aside: I wouldn't make an redside AT right now with the express intent of taking it blueside. While I agree with a lot of common reasons for doing that, the planned market-merge takes away the biggest reason (for me, at least) and leaves a lot of potential problems. From what we've been told, it might not only take four weeks to make the change, but we have no idea what the APP options will be (if you respec blueside and lose the PPP option), and exactly how the incarnate system will/might penalise characters for switching sides. There's so many unanswered questions about the side-switching, I wouldn't recreate a Def as a Corr right now if I want to actually have a blueside AT.
