First Stalker Build. I Need To Know If I'm Doing It Right. M.A./Regen. Stalker.

Firstly, I just want to know if this is at the very least a "decent" build. I only have one other villain that isn't even fully I.O.'ed so I'm not going to be able to make this guy a beast yet. My main concern is P.V.E. as I do not P.V.P. He is a M.A./Regen. Stalker.

I wanted to take the presence pool because I'm tired at the moment of making somewhat cookie cutter guys. It's always the same power pools for ultra survivability. I will be making an alternate build when I have the resources. That being said, I figured fear effects could be useful when I drop out of hide after my Assassin's Strike when soloing or on a small team. I know once an enemy's hit, that's it with fear, so on large teams it may not work so well. I really just wanted to try the powers out and incorporate them into a build.

I really want to know if I have the regeneration side of things right. And I know the resistances and defense is somewhat lacking, but again, I don't want to be having to slave away doing strike forces for merits so I can sell some recipes. I figured that this build is well under about 250 million which is great in my opinion. I've never played anything but an energy/energy blaster and a S.S./Invuln. tanker that were invincible; they were well over 4 billion each to slot, however, and I do not have the resources red side to do so.

Regeneration is a mystery to me. So any input on my build would be much appreciated. And no, I didn't take Revive and Moment Of Glory as they both seemed pretty useless to me. Also, if you can point me in the direction for an alternate build, please do so, regardless of cost for later on. I don't have much a clue as to what I'm doing with this guy. I just need to know if it's "okay for now".

Thanks guys!

Well firstly I have good news for you. Assasin strike has a chance to cause aoe fear and I find it drops enough that you don't really need to worry about presence.
The glaring mistake is that you have delayed as and buildup. They are your bread and butter as a stalker and must be taken immediately at 6 and 8.

Oh really now? You know honestly I just wanted to see what it would be like to cause fear at will. I've seen the presence pool used only once a long time ago when an S.G. mate was using it on his scrapper. It looked really fun, so again, this build is just to tool around with it. If it's that big of a no-no, I'm taking you'd suggest Soul Mastery or the Fighting Pool?

On a side note, I swapped out Combat Jumping with Moment Of Glory at level 49. I figured why am I taking Combat Jumping for a measly addition of 1% to 2% extra defense and slight maneuverability? So I broke down and went for M.O.G.

So, any other suggestions? Is the regeneration and the defense alright at least or is there still much to be desired? And thanks Klaw!

They don't have to be, and you can make a Stalker work without AS. But there's not any reason to do so, since if you don't want to use the mechanic, why make a Stalker? It's still generally good advice, though, and I make use of it below.

So, more notes:
  • Fast Healing on a Stalker should be put off - Reconstruction is far better for your survivability. I'd suggest skipping it early on and taking it if you feel you want it after you get Integration.
  • Taking Recon at 4 and pushing Fast Healing back means Assassin's Blow at 6, Focus Chi at 8, Hasten at 10, and Placate at 12. You'll probably want Placate that early, since as a Regen you're going to get hit - on a defense-based Stalker I'll often put it off.
  • See how you do with Reconstruction at level 16, you may find that you're doing well enough to get Integration instead (I did, and pushed DP back into the 20s). If your playstyle demands that you need the second large heal, then you can get it.
  • Personally, I'd take Crane Kick earlier than Cobra Strike. I suggest moving it to 35, Eagle Claw to 32, and CK when it opens up at 26.
As for the presence pool... well, there's a reason it's usually skipped. Almost anything else will help more. I understand you don't want a cookie cutter, which is why I was mostly talking about rearranging powers instead of swapping them out, but I'd recommend a different non-cookie-cutter option.

Edit: this was posted as I was finishing mine up...

If you really want to tool around with causing fear at will, you could take Dark Melee. Touch of Fear doesn't require a wasted power pick to unlock, has a shorter recharge so that it can be stacked, includes a tohit debuff that can help your survivability as well, and DM for Stalkers has the advantage of having an AoE if you choose to take Shadow Maul (MA has no AoEs for Stalkers). Since it seems that you're not adverse to shuffling things around, I thought I'd mention it.

I thought about recommending MoG but would've pushed it before anything in the Presence Pool - which if you wanted to experiment with, you already had to wait until the 40s for - so I let it go. If you're changing that out (and yes, I recommend it) then you can do some more shuffling, but then you're at the whole "hey, wait... everybody makes this build" stage.

You can make the original build work, without any modifications. I just think that you may find it less fun. And since fun is subjective, you can safely ignore any or all of my advice that you don't happen to like or agree with, because what's fun for you make have me tearing my hair out (and vice versa).

Stalkers only do 1 thing well. If you want to experiment I'd recommend you try a mastermind.

Thanks so much, Siolfir, for the input. I'm going to definitely shuffle the order of the powers around. My Stalker's at level 17 or so at the moment so I'm a while off from this build, but since it's only going to cost me around 200 million to make I figured what the hell, I can be obstinate about keeping the Presence Pool, L.O.L.

And Klaw, I do get your point and my second and more expensive build will be using Soul Mastery most likely in conjunction with the Fighting Pool minus Cobra Strike. Although I've been reading mixed things about Cobra Strike and have added a stun set into it as well as Crane kick to see if stun-locking an E.B. would be possible.

That being said, is the regeneration and the resistances and defense okay for now? Decent, could do better? I do not want to be completely gimping myself here.

Thanks again guys, I'm learning a lot here. The guides seem to be very outdated and don't seem to give much insight on what I should or shouldn't take. They more or less give an overview of the powers and tell you how you should slot it if you want to take it, no definitive take it: yes, or take it: no.

And Klaw, I'm saving making a Mastermind for Going Rogue :P !

P.S. Guys, this is going to sound horrible because of how useless I am on a team until 50, but I never really slot much or care for power choices until level 50. Then I just use my veteran respec. and spec. in my build... Don't kill me!

Ok, when I first saw this build, I thought it was a troll just being stupid. >.>

Slotting Recon for Resist, 6 slotting Reslience, Stamina, Hasten. Slotting Stun on your best attack Eagle's Claw. Using the Presence Pool.

Those all make me feel that this build is a complete joke. But, reading your follow up post, seems you were just mislead or confused. So, I will ask you what I ask most people who post Hodge Podge builds. "What are you building towards?"

This something I would do. Regen benefits most from +Recharge. So I first tried to get as much +recharge, then I went for +Melee Def.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Pine, that's a good build, thank you. I think I get the point of how to use him now. I think my initial build is going to be just that until I can afford all of those Touch Of Death enhancements in there which, phew, is gonna cost a pretty penny. I now see how Shadow Meld works and that there are only small gaps of time when it will be down. Thanks. And again, definitely going to use yours as my serious, *** kicking build and the other build just as the secondary/starter build.

Unfortunately, it takes awhile to get a feel for an archetype and then to slot it. I've never played a scrapper or stalker and have had no idea how to go about slotting it. Thanks again man!

I want you .gif by the way.

Edit: On second thought, yours might be cheaper.

the LotG and Numina's are going to be your most expensive. Crushing Impact and Doctored Wounds are really cheap.

You could slot Focused Smite and then the Mako's Quad if you don't have the cash for the Touch of Death.

Pine how do you use phase shift? If you drop it you still get hit with the attacks already underway so it doesn't work as an ohnoes power you might as well just run for it which works more often than not. Is it for pvp?

It works pretty well as an ohnoes power in PvE, actually. I use it on my Dark/Cold Corr when things start getting to be a problem, and I've been known (before I respec'd her out of it) to Taunt and phase during RSF runs on my EM/Elec to take the initial alpha from all of the AVs on an at-the-time SO build with the phase temp from Warburg.

But with that said, when I saw Stealth/Invis/Phase my first thought was PvP (then I looked at the rest of the build). It's actually really close to the build I have for my MA/Regen, but I put FH at 35, had Combat Jumping, and still hadn't decided what to do with the last couple of power picks yet (she's only level 40 atm).

It's a Smorgasbord build.

Great for PvE, fair in PvP. In PvE, I use phase as a last resort if Recon, DP, MoG and Shadow Dweller are still recharging.

Phase in PvP is like this.... Any time I see a situation where I will die fast, (several heroes on targeting me, out of clickies) I will hit it and run. You might still get hit by some oncoming fire, but it will help you achieve hidden faster, and you will be stealth capped once hide is in place, negating any fire at you.
