need help with processor and video cards
Decent upgrade. Check out a couple articles on the new system components. That i3 530 is a "big bang for the buck" processor and an excellent upgrade over a 3yr old processor. That video card is no slouch either, but I perfer nvidia products. Check out these articles. Did you already have Windows 7? Thats an upgrade if you didn't, allowing you to expand/use much more RAM depending on what you had before, like XP.

thanks for those links especially the one for the graphics cards. I tried playing after posting and the game looked much better with my old card maybe playing with the settings might help but it just doesn't seem to work as well.
The processor I thought would be an upgrade and to Dells credit I did some other things that are better than the previous system but I think I am still going to try to get them to bump up the video card

Benchmarks but the i3-530 anywhere from 15-60% faster depending on the benchmark. So it is an improvement.
Video card however isn't as the old school original 8800GTX is about 25% faster than the HD 5670.

Have a leaf through Anandtech's review of he 5670, comparing it to the GeForce GTS 250. The 250 is highly similar to an 8800GTX; it's a bit faster than the 8800, but it's a good point for comparison.

So my Dell xps 710 finally died and they decided give me an Alienware Aurora as a replacement which is supposed to be of equal or greater value. I honestly can't tell if what I got (mostly looking at the processor and the video card) is equal or greater so hopefully someone here can set me straight. The xps system is 3 years old so please keep that in mind when comparing. The
Original system
Intel Core2 Duo processor E6700 (2.66Ghz,1066FSB) w/DualCore Technology and 4MB cache 1
768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 1
Ageia PhysX Processor 1
The replacement system came with
Processor, I3-530, 2.93, 4MB, Clarkdale, 73W, C2
Radeon HD 5670
