DP RPing

Two things:

1. Has anyone played in-game Dual Pistols? What do you think?

2. For those that have (and some that haven't), has anyone played with the thought of RPing a DP character and how have you characterized his/her movements through writing? I know they use the whole Gun Kata that I know best from Equilibrium, but that's definitely a challenge when it comes to writing about it.

As cool as it looks ingame, personally I wouldn't write them using it unless it actually does fit the character.

1. Aye. Fun set, though not too powerful. Not for minmaxers.

2. Yep. I tend not to go too far into the specific movements, generally describing them abstractly as dodging and weaving around while shooting to give the enemy a tougher target. Sometimes I'll go more specific, like tossing the guns into the air to reach for new magazines and reload both at once, or flicking one by a corner and shooting it so it'll shoot what's around that corner without endangering the shooter, etc - you know, general 'expert gunslinger' stuff you can find all over.

1. My main DP is kept on hold for GR, but I have played it, yes.

2. See http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=220418

The stories in that thread are based on the characterisation of that GR character. Not particularly Gun Kata, more applied high-technology to weapons design. You make of the animation what you wish.

Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.

Rebel Scum- That would be the objective, I think. Are you speaking of the Gun Fu or showboating specifically or using pistols in general?

DeviousMe- Gotcha. Thanks. Sounds relatively basic and you're giving it that Devious swag. :-)

Zortel- Nice stories. Enjoyed the amount of interaction there was with your weapon and the character as she went about her business. It was as if the guns were apart of her.

Ravenswing-That training scenario... I had to read it twice because of all the detail you put into the action. Action-inspiring.

Preciate the input everyone.

I haven't done much with Dual Pistols, just tested it some during beta (waiting for Going Rogue, ditto for Demon Summoning), but my take on it was that the character was a stage magician- a trickshot artist. And all the flippy-spinny-whatever-ness was just that- showboating, misdirection, and borderline juggling. Not a whole lot of Gun Fu going on, heh.

Cham- Yea... I guess there's a difference between Gun Kata and Gun Fu. Gun Fu, you can see in a lot of Hong Kong cinema, John Woo flicks, and even in a graphic novel...titled Gun Fu. It does seem to be just a pretty power.
