Can't see Characters!

Back_Blast

So I was playing a couple days ago, and the game crashed. Upon doing so it asked me to file a report as usual. When I tried to restart it, it crashed after pressing on the icon. Therefore I restarted the computer in hopes of solving the problem. After restarting the computer, It allowed me to open it up and go to the server list. When I go to the character selection all the names are there but the characters are not. All I see is a shadow, and that is all.
I need help as I'm home for the summer and need something to do!!
I've tried verifying all my files, but that hasn't worked either.

Update to Vista Service Pack 2. I'd also recommend installing any other Windows Updates available.

Update your video drivers. Those are VERY old and are going to have many problems with the game. The nVidia Verde Notebook Release 197.16 drivers "should" install on your Asus laptop.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

So...I updated everything, and Still the World loads up, but I can't see anything, except random animations, and my wings that I'm supposed to have on, but they're on NPC's.

Delete the checksum file in your city of heroes directory and then try verifying files again.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

I'm not sure on which widescreen resolutions are supported but there have been some problems in the past where unsupported resolutions are selected so try changing the resolution in game and see if a different resolution displays everything - you may see some distortion if you pick something with a different aspect ratio but it will indicate if there is a problem supporting 1440x850.

Also 3Gb of video memory - is this 3 way SLI?

Mind of Gaia lvl 50 Defiant's first Mind/Storm 'troller.
Deadly Doc 50 Dark/Dark Corr
and lots more on Pinnacle,Union and Defiant

Ok, I will try the checksum delete...
And then the video change...
As far as my video memory goes, it's a GeForce GTX 260M 1GB of memory...I think the program was trippin lol

It won't let me delete the Checksum file...
And I took everything back to default 1024x760 or whatever the resolution is.

Is it giving you an error message? What is the exact message? What is the exact name of the file you are trying to delete?

I attempt to delete it, it says it needs permission from an administrator, I click allow, and it's still there staring me in my face lol.

That's what I'm looking at...

What is the exact name of the file you are trying to delete?

Are you logged in to the computer with an account that has Administrator permissions?

Are you trying to delete it while the game is running?

It is called COH.CHECKSUM

Yes And No...Well actually I've done both...yielding the same results.

In addition to this I just unistalled, and reinstalled the game, and it still has these big glitches and what not?
Any Ideas?

Have you run you're standered sweeps. Anti-virus, defrag, registry cleaner?
And a program like TuneUp Utilities can fix a world of problems.

How about trying the game in safe mode? That will force the graphics to minimum and you can shift up from there.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
