Heya Sunstormer:

It's never really scheduled here. I'm kinda thinking it should be (partially because I have a few toons that need merits ), but honestly, all it takes is one team to form and start advertising, and a raid is rolling in about 15 minutes from that point. Public channels to check or advertise on are RF2009, Freedom Events, probably the Freedom Badge(s) channels, etc.

Bottom line: Start a ruckus, and people come out to make things ruckusier. It's pretty simple here.

Ok for those of you who know, we were just in a disgustingly bad raid on mothership. Was kinda funny considering how there were 5 teams of players all full and not one bubbler or anyone that could protect the squishy healers from mez

Got a screenie somewhere in middle

There were more than that but half of people left after first death lol

A good RWZ raid is 89% leadership. Was the leader effective, or just "GO THERE" "NOOOO" "HELS PLZ"?

Well they started using request to give orders to start with, which wasnt a good idea really seen as most people dont use it lol.

I was relaying messages on broadcast but due to lag by time I got the message across half the people using request had already jumped in bowl and got themselves killed. It was going fine at start up until the guy leading it shouted to jump into bowl when people were still halfway through a mob, after that it all went downhill really.

Half moved to centre of bowl, got stunned and died, then other half followed and same happened. Of course then not everyone bothered to come back again.

That's actually standard practice for raids here. Use broadcast for general "LFT" commentary, and request for actual marching orders by the raid/team leaders.

Yeah, that's always where bad leadership breaks; one team wipe, and it's suddenly "omg u all suk" and they leave, while everyone's waiting for new orders. Two minutes later, people give up.

If you see that and you have the stones for it, step up! Stop attacking and give instructions to everyone gathered. If people see some organization, they'll continue rolling, but leadership is a big, big factor. Reform on the south rim and push forward again; or reform on the ridge west of center, then push down slowly back to center. Once you own the hub, send out tank parties to bring the enemies to you. Or, start moving around the three lanes on the saucer and go after more grates to lengthen the time if that's your thing.

The problem you describe is primarily a role issue. Don't ever be afraid to assume command of a raid if you see the leader faltering. The worst that can happen is that people give up. The best? You win.

I was in RWZ last night enhancing one of my toons when all hell broke out in the bowl. Oh the whining and crying that ensued!!! I've been in horrible raids before, but seriously, crying and complaining isn't going to fix anything. Sorry you had such a bad raid. It'll be better next time. Maybe I'll bring my emp now that she has enhancements again.

Wasnt crying and complaining, was just stating it was a bad raid there was a lot of whining going on over broadcast if thats what you meant though.

Was kinda funny though, 5 teams of players not one bubbler

Oh no! Not you Sun. I meant in broadcast only.

I have never been on a Mothership Raid.

I'm good for Tuesdays. Lost is over, afterall.

Went on a Mothership Raid last night. Everyone was complaining of lag, which I was getting also, in addition to the issues with graphics. The lag was still present after I put it in N64 mode.

But...I got 80ish Vmerits and bought the two face parts. So, lame as the battle was, it was profitable. Now I need the "hips."

Yeah, this was one of the best raids I've been on. Good times everyone!!!!

Maybe I should try to be on the next time one of those things starts. I have my newest MM up to 38, so I figure the /Dark will help, as long as Howling Twilight actually hits. I've been known to get my Robotics/FF and just hover with Dispersion Field on, moving forward so that the the idea is "follow the big bubble" and people don't plant themselves on the rim of the ship, never moving.

I think the biggest issue with these raids is that you don't see a lot of players with FF, Sonic or Dark, though the Dark Miasma is rising in numbers thanks to Demon Summoning. I think having a few people with Dark Miasma is key to taking on the mothership, because they're all about AoE. Nothing else can save a raid from the brink of falling apart because everybody decided to play chicken with the Rikti Magus and lost. The single-most useful power is, without a doubt, Howling Twilight.

I'm echoing other posts by also saying that anybody can lead a mothership raid, yes anybody. All you have to do is be able to tell people what to do. Most of us already know, but we have attention spans measured in... ooh, shiny red ball!

I didn't really disconnect, my client just crashed. Twice. Kept saying that I needed to put a disc on drive D. After the second crash I zoned in Rikti War Zone 2 and couldn't get back in.

Might go for another RWZ raid tonight if Hami doesn't take too long.

I generally get around much of the fussiness of people leaving immediately by prepping people while we're taking down pylons. By the time we're on the last pylon, I've generally gone over the various roles of the various ATs (Tanks = LoS herd, Scrappers and Stalkers = Magi hunting, everyone else kill while standing in big bubbles), the overall progression (always keep moving forward; if you die, don't wait for a rez, just hosp it; when we get in the bowl, tankers herd back to the center), and the standard bomb warning (call out your bombs before you click them; if you see a bomb call, run far away) twice. I also make sure that everyone got it by encouraging them to send me tells if they have any questions (depending on the specificity of the question, I'll either answer it in request for the benefit of everyone or simply return the tell).

Quite possibly the biggest secret to the success of my raids is simply making sure that people know what to do before they actually get to those situations. While simultaneously demonstrating that you're a competent leader that can handle catastrophic raid death, it also helps prevent catastrophic raid death because people know what to expect and how to avoid having those situations that cause catastrophic raid death (like Magi stunning and killing all the squishies so that tanks and melee don't have any support to keep them alive).

Another suggestion would be to avoid running the team you are on yourself (i.e. keeping it full) if you are leading the raid. Having to deal with sending invites can distract you from issuing orders, so I always manage to simply promote one of my teammates (preferably someone I know and always someone that is 50) and tell them to simply keep the team full. Most of them are happy to do it since it involves a remarkably small amount of work (I transfer leadership only after the forming stage has actually ended and leadership is actually needed for the raid), and, if not, I can always find someone that is willing to do so.
