seriously bad lag spikes since Issue 17

hey all, i've recently come back to CoH and have had really bad lag since returning, my ping in open area's like atlas park will fly up to 1000ms, right after i get a "lost connection to mapserver" error on screen. some have said that its something to do with the graphics, but why would graphic settings have an issue on the game? my machine is pretty decent, and can run other games online with no problems, just CoH seems to really hate my net connection or something. if anyone can give me some tips to avoid this lag spikes, it would be much aprreciated, also, these spikes happen almost ever 10 to 15 mins.

running Windows 7 64bit, ATI hd4870 gcard 3.2gh amd 6000+ dual core.

Post a cohhelper and hijackthis. 2 things come to mind:

- update to the latest graphics drives
- close down all other applications and *only* run the game. don't stream music, don't alt tab and surf the web. don't run ventrilo or teamspeak. If you're using ATI turn off the ati event service or hotkey poller.

Report back here with the cohhelper and hijackthis and others can provide better feedback.

Solgath, there are a few possibilities currently being discussed in relation to this issue. If you have the ability to, please check the Test Server - there's a recent fix which may cause this issue to disappear, but I believe that the more feedback, the better.

From what we (the players) have discerned, CoH at above-average or high priority (which it sets itself to automatically, after Issue 17) doesn't play nicely with certain motherboards and configurations, especially on Windows 7.

Also, yes, as stated above: Update all the drivers you possibly can. You never know what might be causing the problems...

got the latest ATI drivers, 10.4, CoHhelper? is that something in CoH or do i need to get that, hijackthis i'll grab a listing, problem is, never had this issue before I17.

Upgrade your graphics card drivers. Everyone and their mothers claim they never had issues before i17 so they shouldn't now but the driver updates do help. Also be sure to disable that ATI hotkey poller and/or the ATI Event service after you've upgraded.

And yes hopefully the test server fix improves the overall experience for the rest of us having CPU and other issues related to background programs.

yeah, as i said, my video drivers are the latest from ATI, 10.4, unless they had something newer recently. but i'll take a look, and thnks for the link to the fix.

Edit: used the fix, no more lag on ultra anymore. Thanks for the help folks
