Charged for "Free Time"????

So, thru Refer a Friend, I brought my wife back to the game.

According to the Refer a Friend policy, she and I split 30 days of free time.

For me, this worked fine.

But for her, she got charged for the following 30 days instantly...not at the end of the 15 days of free time.

The idea of having Refer a Friend is so that they have 15 days to tryout the game before commiting to a month again. Sort of a free trial activation.

However, suddenly she gets charged instantly? Very bad policy, and come Monday morning, support will be getting a phone call from me.

Sounds like everything happened exactly as advertised.

On the Refer a Friend program, you and your friend each get 15 free days after the referal pays for their first free month.

How does it work?

1. E-mail your friend a 10-day trial serial code by entering the requested information and clicking the Invite a Friend button below.
2. When your friend activates the trial account to a full retail account by buying a retail box or buying a direct digital download and then pays for their first month of subscription (excluding any periods of play included with the product purchase), you will have one month of free game time credited to your City of Heroes®/City of Villains® account.
3. You can have a maximum of 4 invites 'live' at any one time. As soon as one of your friends converts to a standard account, we'll give you another one to send to someone else. If your first batch of four invites is successful with all four friends converting to a standard account and each buying one month of subscription (excluding any periods of play included with the product purchase), you'll get four months of City of Heroes®/City of Villains® for free! Recruit more friends for more free game time!
4. You will only receive your free game time if your friend converts to a paid subscription within two months of the invitation being sent. Be sure to remind them to activate their account before time runs out!
5. You can see the status of each invite you send at the bottom of this page.
EDIT: Wait.... that's the "Refer a Friend", not the "Invite a Friend Back". But it still works the same way. Invite them back, they pay, then you get the free time. It was never intended as a "try the game again" offer, it was a "here, have some bonus time for coming back (but you actually have to come back first)".

What Roderick said is correct. You are referring to the "Invite-a-friend-back" program, which acts slightly differently than the regular "Refer-a-friend".

For an "Invite-a-friend-back" invitation, the person being invited back MUST reactivate by paying for a month of service in order to play and get the free time. In the regular"Refer-a-friend", the invited player can play right away, but the sender does not get any free time until a subscrption is paid for.
