Just to throw in my .02. I find that DB on a brute can be an extremely fun ride. Can't say much for number crunching as it's never been a focus of mine. What I'm judging on is fun factor purely.

My brute is a DB/WP on freedom. I find the combo to be both flashy and highly survivable but ymmv.

Villainside KB in the mid-high teens, lets see - trolls (Lt, bosses, some minions), Mooks (hitmen, melee LT's, almost all bosses), tsoo (ancenstor spirits - lots of KB and stun), Goldbrickers (bosses, LT's), arachnos (LT's with grenades), Longbow (LT's with grenades, most bosses). I have had every thing in this list knock my characters on their *** in the mid to high teens if they don't have KB protection.

So I would echo kheldarn's suggestion - take Indominable will as soon as you can - you don't have to run it all the time but when you DO want it, having it around is very nice. Knock back is one of the few things you can't 'recover' from with inspirations - once you have been knocked down you are going to finish the KB and kip up animation before you can do anything else, so the only way to avoid it is to pro-actively eat a break free or have KB protection.
