Stone/Dual Blades Advice

Hi,

This is a build I made after trying out Dual Blades on a tanker, which I enjoy playing. I'm not too experienced with slotting and bonuses and numbers and stuff (total n00b), but I thought I could give this a shot.

I would like some constructive critisism and advice, please.

I can't tell what you're trying to do here. If you're trying to build a heavyweight scrapper, you've certainly succeeded: you've got plenty of speed, and you've got enough recharge to run the Empower -> Weaken attack chain in or out of Granite.

This comes at the cost of survivability, though: outside of Granite, your defenses are on a par with a Willpower scrapper running Combat Jumping, Tough and Weave. With Granite active, you've got nice resistance numbers, but you're under-built for defense, leaving you just another tank, rather than having the extreme survivability that Granite tanks are capable of.

You also don't have Taunt. Until you pick up your epic pool, Taunt is your only reliable way of getting attention at a distance, and it greatly amplifies your ability to grab and hold aggro.

As a minimal change, I'd switch the Impervium Armor: Psionic Resistance in Granite for a level 50 common defense IO, gaining 4.5% to defense.

As a more extreme change, I'd drop Pyre Mastery and Hover in exchange for Boxing, Tough, Weave, and Taunt. Properly slotted, Weave will give you another 7.8% defense. You can use Boxing as a set mule to hold five pieces of Hecatomb, giving the same bonuses that Ragnarok in Fire Ball did; alternatively five pieces of Red Fortune or four pieces of Perfect Zinger give you half the recharge bonus, freeing up some slots to move around (say, put a Steadfast Protection: Def 3% somewhere).

If you where looking to build a tank that works well in a group and solo this build looks great. The purples in your Epic pools are gonna cost an arm and a leg. I suggest taking the knockdown IO from Ragnarok instead of the DMG one, you aren't going to kill anything with the small boost in DMG and it's nice to drop a few of the MOBs before they start taking swipes at you.

Ah, yes, I was meant to add that I’m trying to compensate for the minuses that Granite gives. Plus, improving the recovery rate. The recharge and accuracy has been an issue for me at times as well.

Thanks for your input, Katie V and ZizsiS. Admittedly, my favourite toon is a scrapper and I do like to be able to dish out a bit of damage. But, I have been enjoying this toon very much. And I am trying to make this a toon where I can solo it and be a team player as well.

I do like the Pyre Mastery (primarily Fire Ball) to help with the taunt cap and the seriously high damaging toons I team with regularly. So, I'm a little reluctant to give that up. But that doesn't mean I can't be persuaded - just be gentle with me.

After a bit of head scratching, I've come up with something a little more "team friendly" (after all, I can always dual-build for more appropriate soloing):

I love my stone/db. With him I too look towards giving a constant battle for the debuffs of granite. The build has great speed, good constant damage etc. Towards the end focused on more speed bonuses for movement in granite (actually faster than starting a toon with sprint on)

He has the other toggles by doing so also, not optimum, but for easy things its doable, you find what you can/can't do by doing so.

That’s an interesting build, windenergy21. I never really thought about having a build like that where I focus more on the DB attacks. It looks like a fun build do so some good soloing.

I’ve taken advice from above (very much appreciated) and had yet another jiggle of slots and enhances. I’ve still tried to focus on the debuffs in granite first, then improve recovery and end spend. I’ve totally scrapped psi res, as I couldn’t get at least 15% without sacrificing something else.

I’ve only used the Weaken and Empower combos as they only take 4 attacks to pick, plus the handy little buff/debuff they provide.

Once I get the 60 month vet reward (just over 3 months away) I'll be able to move Recall Friend to a later level and make Stamina and Blinding Feint available sooner.

I think this is the finished article, but please do make any comments.

Stamina at 22 will really only matter if you're tanking a Positron TF. Other than that, the build looks good to me.

It wasn't letting me open up your build for some reason so I'll go with what I see so far.

First thing that jumped out at me was Earth's embrace.

If you're going to go for the 5% recharge bonus in it, do so with doctored wounds so you can max either heal or rech and get 80% or so to the other stat.

Hard to see too much of other sets without being able to open it. Blinding feint is way too late. As a tanker, with mud pots being a large part of your aggro, you want blinding feint asap to keep your accuracy up to hit enemies to taunt them more efficiently.

Granite Armor, the defense is nice, but you definitely want to make sure you max out the resistance more. Thats taking your resistance from 68% to 78%, for just dropping a 2% recovery bonus or a 10% regeneration bonus. That is a huge difference.
