Well, even though you're not planning on building it yourself, start at Father Xmas's $600 build. You can also check over at maximumPC.com - they've had a few sub-$1000 builds, and they tend to have back issues in PDF form (plus searchable articles and such.)

Then head to places like cyberpower.com and ibuypower.com, and see what you can whip up along those lines.

My assumption is that you'll end up with an Athlon II x4 processor, 4 Gb RAM, Windows 7 x64 and probably something in the Geforce 260/Radeon 5770 graphic card range.

Well it's a $750 build now, I included a copy of 64-bit Win 7 Home Premium ($100) and tweaked the limit up since I was already over $600 with my previous rig since ram prices shot up last year.

Also switched from Intel Socket 775/DDR2/GTS 250 to AMD Socket AM3/DDR3/HD 5770.

Make the best of your 'break'. Get more sleep. Spend time outdoors.

And just think, while you're gone they'll get the kinks worked out.
