Medicine - Stimulant

My suggestion is easy and simple...

Change the "Stimulant" power in the "Medicine" Power Pool so that it can be activated as a self-buffing power as well as an ally-buffing power.

Stimulant is designed to give the bearer some resistance to holds, sleep, confusion and other negative effects, considering the fact that those negative effects have become common in CoH and especially CoV this suggestion would not be such a bad idea. Also when Medicine is paired with some power sets from other AT's "Aid Other" is really the only alternative (because the player may prefer to solo much more often than find a group) and yet that AT may already possess a ally-only healing power.

"Stimulant" only reduces the DURATION of holds and other negative efects it does NOT render the bearer IMMUNE to them at all. Also the "Stimulant" power can only be used out of combat because it can be interrupted. This is why "Stimulant" being able to activate as a self-buffing power would be balanced and VERY useful.

That is my idea...

Suggestions forum is down a few.

Aside from that, a power that targets cannot also be a self affecting power, since you cannot target yourself. Call it a limitation of the game if you want, but it cannot be done. If it affects yourself, it can't be used on teammates.

The simple fact is, if you want aid self, you have to sacrifice a power choice that can only be used on other people.

AFAIK, the only way to achieve this is to make it an AoE, since you cannot target yourself. A power can work on yourself (in which case it works on you no matter what you're targeting), a power can work on an ally (in which case it will be forced to target an ally when you try to use it), or it can be AoE (in which case it will hit both allies and yourself at the same time).

And off the top of my head, the only powerset I can think of which has an ally only healing power which doesn't *also* have a status protection power is Storm Summoning, and even then O2 Boost has stun protection and Steamy Mist has Confuse protection.

False. Stimulant does both.

False. Stimulant (and in fact all powers in the Medicine pool) can be slotted for interrupt reduction (and if you could use it on yourself, would you need to slot any other type of enhancement?), and it won't be interrupted if an attack misses you -- which both +defense and -tohit can cause.

I can understand your desire, but I don't think your suggestion will work.

This suggestion would really mess with the inter-archetype balance.

Melee characters in any game are at a severe disadvantage due to the fact they don't have any ranged attacks, and have to chase down enemies, deal with fliers, and so on.

To compensate, in CoH, they get status protection, ranged characters don't in general. Ranged characters typically get other tools for dealing with mezzers, such as mezzes of their own, but generally dont get the passive protection that melee-ers do.

This used to bug me, until I played Champions Online, where this distinction was not present. The upshot of their archetype-free system was that melee characters were very unattractive. This helped me to understand the reasoning behind what seemed like quite an arbitrary decision in CoH.

So, making a power available to every "squishy" at level 6 that gives them mez-protection would seriously break a balance deal that exists between melee and non-melee in this game.

Final note - some ranged characters can get mez protection. Force Fields and Sonic do so, and all Controllers can get it in the PSi epic pool, just not round the clock. But, it always comes at a fairly steep price - no offensive buffs, no self-heal, sleep and KB holes, or very hard to perma, and unlockable at level 41.

Lol sure give all squishies mez protection like Tankers... And before them, at level 6!

Worst suggestion ever.

Break Frees are your self-Stimulant. My life's been 800% better since I started being proactive with my inspirations rather than gobbling up whatever random drops I get from minions and hoping it's enough.
