Wing Blaster power (winged characters)

I had this idea for new blaster powers for a while. I am still figuring out how to make it apply for melee types as well (this is just on paper, I am no programmer but I don't see how this won't work).
I use most of the scheme for energy blast as a guide for abilities so it is easy identify which goes where.

-Power Bolt=Flick (Fire a single feather at target)

-Power Blast=Double Flick (Fire 2 feathers at target. Powerful yet slower attack than flick)

-Energy Torrent=winged slash (melee- slash enemies in a wide arc in front of you)

-Power Burst=Winged Gust (Flap wings in the direction of the target to blow it off its feet. [Similar to Gale but single target])

-Power Burst=Flying Slash (targeted melee cone- player flies at a target that is within short range wing slashing up to 5 enemies in melee distance of targeted enemy and player returns to the area attack originated)

-Sniper Blast= Long Shot (Player winds up, slowly extending right arm and wing backward as if preparing for a pitch and executes by swinging wing foreword like an under arm pitch [or overhand both look good] releasing a feather to strike an enemy.)

-Aim= Aim. (Still a good power)

-Power Push= Wing Strike (Strong “backhand” wing strike to knockback a single foe. player movement similar to shield charge but no teleporting, player’s arm follows wing movement)

-Explosive Blast= Feather Cluster (Targeted AOE- use left wing to chuck a bunch of feathers that are bunched together in a sphere that bursts on impact damaging enemies near target)

-Nova= Winged Fury (after seeing hail of bullets, I had to change it up to use that animation instead, flicking feathers all over the place.)

In addition to power customizing, I thought about wing "ammo" types Scales (draconic), bone, metal(armoured Valkyrie) and cell(tech wings) “feathers” to match the different wings. For insect, smaller tech cells to act as the smaller designs of the wings. Butterfly and fairy, Dust types (Dark powder for butterfly types and shiny pixie dust for fairy)

I'm all for it great concept.

Yeah. Nice concept, but you'd have to convince at least one dev to make it in "all of their ample free time."

With I17 being patched up and Going Rogue coming out, they're probably SWAMPED.

Too many alts to list.

Yeah. aside from this area though, I have no idea how to bring this concept to their attention. I appreciate the support in my idea. thanks ^_^

I see two issues here. First is th power that rushes an enemy, then returns to the starting location - It can't be done. In the beta where shields was released, Castle said that Shield Charge had to be a teleport, because the powers system is incapable of moving you in a running/flying manner. He didn't say anything about this part, but I think we have a reticle for it because it needs a location for a teleport power rather than a "port to somewhere near this enemy" ability. I'm also unsure that the system is capable of remembering where you were and porting you back there, so this power would really only work if the movement portion were removed, or it were changed to a Lightning Rod/Shield Charge style telenuke.

The other issue is typing the powerset to a costume part. Particularly a costume part that not everyone has access to (vet reward or purchased booster to have wings at creation). If you want to know why tying power to costume parts is a bad idea, go to the Search function, select the "Soldiers of Arachnos" section, and search for +Bane +Crab +"dual build".

To me, this sounds a lot like what Statesman may have been envisioning way back when he was touting his "Avariels" Epic AT idea. At the time, it didn't happen because we didn't have wings at all - they hadn't been added yet. When wings were added, it was scrapped because the dev team didn't really think that building an AT around "look at me! I can fly!" really had enough options to be viable.

Interesting. I havent even considered the VEATs.

I can see that flying slash would need to be another port power then.

But, why not have an archetype that can only fly? Villains have an archetype that forces you to have crab pack regardless of the fact that you don't have a power that actually uses it. Warshades and peacebringers (PBs, who are forced to have an annoying coasting range that kills you if you get stunned mid flight and coast into the next mob because you can't stop) are forced to have an aura you can't colour change.

Since epics are grabable at lvl 20 now, an awesome unique, winged archetype achievable, red or blueside at lvl 50 could make up for the now, reward-less 50 achievement with or without vet rewards. It'd be no different than unnessesarily spending money preordering CoV to get the epic SoA and Widow helmets costume pieces and then later on getting them anyway later as a vet reward once vet rewards were activated.

It's understandable that the archetype would need to be looked over and altered to fit with a proper secondary powerset, surely it could be seen as a possibility and reviewed, put to a vote of popularity to ultimately judge whether the idea truly is a scrapjob or worthy of some effort to make it a possibility to become another power for the ranks of Heroes and villains.

Well, it could just be a targeted cone with the "player flying at the enemy" part being entirely graphical.

@Dysc, on virtue:
Virtue blues: Overnight (DP/MM), Kid Ridiculous (FC/rad), Panorama (Ill/time)
Virtue reds: Block Party (SS/SD), Goldcrush (earth/fire), Deadwire (claws/elec), Snowcrush (ice/kin)

I think a winged set would be more applicable for melee than ranged.

Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

"You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off. Definitely not worth it."
