Sweet, Sweet Graphical Functionality!

No, this isn't a post about Ultra Mode or any improvements to graphics in the game. So if you're deliberately avoiding checking out this post because you're of the assumption that it's about something you already know, then you're not reading this and I'm allowed to make fun of you. Neener neener!

My computers have problems.

  • My main compy, which I built in 2003 complete with a 1.83GHz Athlon XP CPU, is slowly deteriorating due to motherboard wear and tear. Two of its three RAM slots are inaccessible to the CPU now, and the third one occasionally glitches out by sending back values that weren't the ones written to it, which leads to faulty data manipulation or--unsurprisingly--system crashes. It is not suitable for playing City of Heroes.
  • My laptop, which I've been using since 2006, recently lost its hard drive due to some kind of physical breakage inside it. This is after the motherboard's Wi-Fi interface went bad, and the video output is either greyscale (S-Video) or missing the red channel (VGA). It was a good computer otherwise, but now doesn't have a brain.
So instead, I've been forced to play the game on the only other computer at my disposal, which is... don't laugh too hard... one of these (but with 2GB of RAM).

For the longest time, the "3D Resolution Scaling" feature has worked incorrectly on some lower-end devices in that instead of making the full scene become more pixely, it just upscaled however many pixels starting from the bottom left corner which, with the UI drawn on top, resulted in some annoying video feedback that made the game unplayable.

Ah! But with Issue 17, it works correctly! Now, with my minimal graphics settings and a reduced rendering buffer, I can get a good 60fps! Hey, maybe I'll even be able to run it full-screen (1024x600) now!
