Knockdown proc in Crushing Field
I've got Crushing Field (the AoE immobilise in Gravity Control) 5-slotted with Gravitational Anchor including the hold proc, and love the way it uses the Gravity hold graphics as I spam it on giant crowds of bad guys.
It's now occurred to me that I could also slot the Targetted AoE purple Chance for Knockdown in there for extra mitigation and laughs. Spamming it on a group of 16+ means that 3 would get knocked over per application, but it would look pretty cool. It would also work well with Gravity since Crushing Field doesn't apply -Knockback. Its a smaller chance to proc than the hold (20% vs 33%) but it would work on bosses and lieuts. Has anyone else tried this? Did you love it or regret it? |
Never thought of doing that. It could work well. And actually, if you wanted to make up for some of Gravity's lackings, you could slot both procs. Someone better at math would hae to calculate it but I think that would give you around 40% mitigation per application.

The chance of mitigation would by 1-(1-.33)*(1-.20) = 47% or so. Thats the chance of each target getting hit by either or both effect.
It should look like a casual hand-wave mess with gravity. Some enemies float into the air, some get pulled down to the ground.
With this and Psi Tornado up every 11 seconds or so I feel like I'm playing a slightly odd Defender, and not really bothering much with Wormhole or GDF as anything other than panic tactics.
I've been playing with this for a couple of days now, mostly fighting +0/x8 missions with two characters. And I really like it.
Ragnorak Proc in Crushing Field is a keeper!
indeed its quite nice -- I love crushing field, except for the fact it should root enemies, kd is fine but having things locked down by gravity go flying is just stupid!
PsiT is also nice, the +rech proc works well there too

Yeah, Ive got the FF +Rech proc in there.
The thing is though, if Crushing Field did apply -KB, then putting the Ragnorak proc in it would be far less useful. The way it is now, its the one area immobilise that you can spam for repeated knockdown with this proc.
Vive la difference!
I think it should do knockback resistance but not protection. If it provided 1000% knockback resistance, anything under mag 100 would convert to knockdown, if resistance works the way all other resistances do. Now THAT would pique my interest in Gravity.
That would be extremely cool.
It would make Grav/Storm a very nice combo if Tornado was reduced to doing knockdown.
Come to think of it, Gravity Control and Whirlwind would be pretty potent...
I keep meaning to try a soft-capped /SR scrapper with whirlwind.
Also, I have an Ice/FF and an Earth/FF that are both soft-capped to AOE, Ranged, and Smashing/Lethal (even without BOTZ) and I need to see if I can find somewhere to sneak in Whirlwind on them as well.
