WP/SS build for critique

Hey folks, I slapped this build together, and am in the process of earning the requisite Merits/Inf to put it together. Before I started spending that currency, I wanted to get some more eyes on it and see if there's anything I missed.

Build Goals:
*effectively Tank on any given TF
*overcome WP's relatively weak aggro management
*not die

Your build is a little tighter than mine and I've yet to find something in the game (not including AE missions) I can't tank.

Sure, I had to use inspirations to tank Recluse to get my MoSTF badge, but the only support character I had on the team was a Force Field Defender. Once the red tower went down I was never in any danger.

Give me a day and I'll post the build I have on mine so you can compare and contrast.

I think you've overkilled the +hp because with accolades you've exceeded cap also I am not keen on the level of accuracy you have in your attacks. I know you have foc acc but for exemping etc I'd want more. The disorient bonuses and the little bit of extra regen from pounding slugfest wouldn't be able to woo me.

Only really needed if exemped below level 23. Rage covers the accuracy issue just fine.

New Dawn had a valid point re: the Accuracy; while it's true that Rage would cover most of the shortcoming before FA, I'd like to have a little more Acc to work with against toHit debuffs and the like. As far as the HP goes; I'm not entirely sure what the actual, in-game differences between capped HP and the HP in the below build (3153) would be. Obviously it affects Regen, but with being just about softcapped to S/L/E/N/F/C, that shouldn't be an issue.

Here's my edited build:

Your second build looks very solid and very costly. My only quibble would be with order of power selection, but it seems obvious that you aren't intending to run Synapses with this character for the merits. (Even if that's a very good thing to do with a Willpower tanker.) I'd still want KO Blow by 22, and I usually don't take Heightened Senses until 30.

It is pricey, but just on that character alone I'm about 15% of the way there on Inf and...well, far less on Merits, but he's only 4 days old.

That late on Heightened, huh? And still pretty durable on Synapse w/o the Energy Defense? I'd like to be able to run that one for Merits, it's not a bad little arc.

I've still got 3 vetspecs and the 3 Trials with which to work, so plenty of flexibility to juggle things around.

(ps, thanks for chiming in Heraclea; your guides, specifically the Aggro holding one, were a big help in planning this build)

At Synapse levels, your defenses from HS won't be performing all that well due to exemping down reducing their effectiveness. Having both QR and Stamina working for you at that time is probably more helpful than having HS. My usual method, which is somewhat controversial, is to postpone both MoB and HS until Stamina at 20, I've found this performs well enough even at those lower levels; your regeneration is more important than damage resistance or defense. And Super Strength may mean you want to modify that, because I do think you want KO Blow early.

One quick question, as a mini-bump: I've been strongly considering dropping Focused Accuracy out of the above build, in favor of Conserve Power. Now that the build is fairly mature in-game (level 43, everything but the really expensive stuff slotted), I'm finding that the FF Proc in Foot Stomp is making me "run hot" in regard to Endurance. Also, it's a "permaRage" build, so FA seems like it would be overkill, given that, with Rage, even my attacks that are slotted the least for Accuracy are over the toHit cap against +4s.

Thoughts from anyone who went this route, or care to hypothesize?

Thanks!
SD

Now that you can get a +ToHit bonus from a relatively inexpensive IO, the Kismet +Acc, I think FA is almost completely useless. I'd drop it for CP or even SJ. I don't think a perma-Rage SS tank needs the additional ToHit anyway, but if you want it, slotting the Kismet unique would be a better choice.

But part of your endurance problems could be because you have absolutely no endurance reduction slotted in Foot Stomp. If you're spamming it, it could eat through your end bar fast. I'd recommend swapping out the Erad Acc/Rchg for the Acc/Dam/Rchg/End, and replacing the Oblit Dam/Rchg with a Multi Strike Dam/End/Rchg.

I'm also not a fan of Manuevers; for tanks, the amount of defense you get for the endurance cost is very small. I think you'd be better off dropping it and slotting Boxing with the cheapest Kinetic Combat IOs you can find for the additional S/L bonus. Considering WP's other strengths, I don't think being at the soft-cap to all positions is that essential. As a matter of fact, I would make sure that HPT, Fast Healing and RttC were fully slotted for Heal, or very close to it, before working on Defense.

EDIT: BTW, Fast Healing provides significantly more regen than Health (.75 vs. .4) so if you're going to fully slot one and short slot the other, FH is the one to fully slot.

The no EndRdx in Foot Stomp was really short-sighted, so that's already fixed. Bear in mind that the order of power selection probably seems odd (KO Blow put off until 26, Taunt early at 20), but the character is a Super Group Officer, so as such often runs lower level content and Task Forces with newer/lower level members.

Most of my End "problems" are stemming from that FF Proc (which is lovely); more Recharge leads to more KO Blow/Foot Stomp/Rage, which leads to more End loss (and more Recharge, from Stomp). My intent was to take CP to "cover" that, and also to mitigate both crashes. From what you said, though, it sounds like it's a viable option.

Cheers!
SD

EDIT: Oh, and Maneuvers is in there to shove everything 3.5% closer to soft capping all types (except Psi and, well, Toxic)....it's still not quite there, but I can live with being within 1.2% of S/L and .6% of F/C.
