Ok, am I being daft?

Last night, I tried to get my new lvl6 Corrupter to do some AE missions.
Talked to the computer, hit the "Play" button, but the holograph wouldn't acknowledge I had a mission.
Is this a bug? Or am I being blind, and need to be <level> before I can use AE?
(not new to game, though I've been away for a while)

Odd, seems like it should have worked. I notice you mentioned "Hologram" which usually turns into whatever the contact is for the mission since most authors don't leave it on the default. It's possible that it was an invalidated mission but I thought most of those now had a flag in the description to let you know that it won't activate. Just to clarify you went:

  • "Mission Architect is awesome! Lemme find something to play..."
  • Search
  • Found mission of choice
  • Pressed PLAY
  • Talked to the contact
  • They ignored you?

Perhaps there was something wrong with it that didn't turn on the invalid flag. I've run into those. Come to think of it, I haven't seen any "invalid" flags in the interface in a while...either the flags have been removed or those missions have been hidden from the interface (as it should be...at one point I looked at a page of arcs I hadn't played and over half were invalid).

You can use AE right from level 1 as long as you're not on a trial account. When you click "Play" your nav bar should acknowledge you are now in Architect mode, and the hologram should be replaced by a contact of some sort, as Zamuel said.

I had this happen to a level 50 the other day, too, so I doubt it has to deal with level. I assumed it was either flagged as invalid or got banhammered for some reason but was still accessible from the mission list. For the life of me, I can't remember the name or number of the arc, since I just gave up and moved on, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't pay a bit more attention.

Yep.
Didn't think an "invalid" or "banned" mission would show up (figuring they are sent to sleep with the electronic fishes, so to speak), so that's likely my culprit.

I'll probably try the "Hall of Famers" or "Dev's Choice" from now on.
(which, unfortunately, is not the intent behind AE. But I read AE's got some changes coming, so hopefully it'll take care of itself there...

Don't let one invalid mission stop you from trying others. I've literally played hundreds of arcs, and the number that wouldn't start were a definite minority. Try searching the "Stories and Lore" forum for arcs that are pretty much guaranteed to work.

Don't be talkin' that crazy talk! There's plenty of good stuff out there just takes looking. Just because ITF is popular, that doesn't mean it's the only TF in the game. This is the same principle.
