Local MA Files on a Mac

Okay, for the life of me, I cannot find a thread or post detailing where local files are stored for the MA on a Mac. Any hints? I'm quite new to the Mac setup, previously being a Windows-only user, and am now quite stumped.

So... am I posting this question in the wrong section or... am I missing something else? I feel like I should be able to find this information rather easily, but no such luck at the moment. My search-fu fails me.

This is the right section but I forsee that there are two problems.

  1. Most MA writers don't own Macs. Point blank that means people can't help no matter how much they want to.
  2. A number of MA writers ignore this section. This is the nastier of the two but there's people who don't see it as worth their time to look here as opposed to Stories and Lore. Luckily, most writers do check here and are generally helpfully so it's not as bad as it could be.

You may want to try asking in the Mac section of the forums. Within Windows, the files are listed under C: (or whatever drive COH is on) -> Program Files -> City of Heroes -> Missions or Custom_Critter or CustomVillainGroups based upon whichever of the three you need. Hopefully you can find the Mac equivalent based upon that.

Macs do things a mite differently than PCs in this regard. On a mac, sometimes a bunch of different files and substructures (that on a PC would be right out in the open in the program's directory) are hidden inside the program's icon. To access these, right click on the program's icon (in the finder applications section) and select 'show package contents' (that's what it calls it in 10.4 anyway). This will pop up a new finder window. In CoH's, navigate to Contents->Resources->transgaming->c_drive->coh->Missions and you should see your storyarc files. If you want to manually edit them you just right click on them and do Open With->TextEdit.

Caveat: all this info is based off the last CoH version (i15, I think) that was compatible with osx 10.4. I don't have any more recent versions of CoH on this computer since it stopped working on here after i15. If they've changed anything since then, the exact info may not be completely correct anymore. However, the general idea of going into the package contents to find it should still work - you might just have to look around a bit.

The above information is current for all newer versions of CoH. Basically, the directory structure on the Mac is exactly the same as the PC version (they are, after all, the same game), but it takes a bit of digging to actually get to that structure as it's hidden inside the application itself. On the plus side, that makes file replacement (replacing sounds, textures, or fonts) on the Mac as easy as it is on the PC version.
