Starting under different resolutions

I use a laptop to play the game most of the time. I have a docking station that hooks to a monitor for higher resolution play. But I also play mobile sometimes. When I start the game after switching from one to another it always has to reset to the 800x600 resolution mode because the current mode is unavailable. Then I have to go in and switch, and get back out and restart which is annoying.

I'm guessing there's probably a way to select which resolution to run before starting so I can just run the program from 2 different icons or something depending on which monitor setting I have. Can I get some help on how to do this?

Well the first way is to use TweakCoH. Note that this site is being redesigned so the TweakCoH page may move at anytime. This utility allows you to change the various game settings such as resolution. It does this by changing the settings for the game in the Windows registry.

Another possible way, since I haven't tried this myself (traveling now so I can't try it), is to create a new shortcut with -screen x y added to the end of the target line of the shortcut. So, in theory, -screen 1024 768 should start the game in 1024x768 resolution. Like all command switches there is a space before the -. I do know there is a way to start in game in a window, I just don't remember how but I've seen other posters list the method, maybe one of them will chime in here.

You can also save two different layouts of the various game windows and load them, manually, so you don't have to shuffle them around as you alternate between resolutions.

Use /wdw_save_file filename to save the layout and /wdw_load_file filename to load the layout.
