DA - How many brutes take CJ instead of cloak of darkness?

Like it says, do a lot of brutes do this? I am considering not taking cloak and getting CJ instead.

The only reason I would take Cloak of Darkness is if I were stacking defense in my build. Sure the stealth is nice too if you combine it with Super Speed or a +stealth IO, but I'd rather smash my way through missions on my brutes. If you're just looking for something to cover your immob hole then CJ will do just fine.

On my Dark Brute builds I like to take CoD and CJ to stack defense. I normally add in Tough and Weave also as well as a few IO sets to get around 20-25% defense to everything. Dark armor has very good layered defenses when you do that and no holes as long as you squeeze in a -kb IO somewhere.

The defense on Cloak of Darkness suppresses once you attack. It drops to 1.88%, which is identical to Combat Jumping.

For an extra .19 endurance (almost 4x the cost), CoD gives you stealth and a perception buff over CJ. I suppose you should also consider the extra 1.88% defense while not attacking, but that hardly seems very useful to a Brute, especially one that will likely be running Cloak of Fear, Oppressive Gloom, and/or Death Shroud.

I took CoD for theme, but I often wonder how much better I would be on endurance with CJ instead.

I am pretty sure the defense part does not suppress on CoD, only the stealth part.

CoD also offers +perception which is nice as well as immob protection. As far as all the other toggles on Dark Armor, I have never found CoF very useful on my brutes and OG doesn't use much endurance. I do run Death Shroud and seven other toggles. The build requires heavy use of IO set to keep endurance usage under control and get the defense/resist numbers I wanted.

Gruumsh is right - I double checked in RedTomax and it looks like CoD is one of the few (possibly the only) stealth power that doesn't have it's def suppress when attacking. It gives a full 3.75 def at all times where stealth (for exemple) gives 1.875 at all times and an extra 1.875 that suppresses when attacking. Looking at other powers it looks like CoD is modeled after shadowfall and steamy mist - they both give full def (3.75) at all times.
