Hey all. Its been a long time since I've posted to the forums, but I'm hoping for a bit of advice.
My Brute is at 50 but as I'm not much of a Villains player I didn't have much inf so stuck with SO's. After a lucky purple drop and about 500 million then dropping into the inf account, I'm feeling a bit more flush

Anyway, I've messed about with the build and slotting but I'm wary about making huge changes to the build (which this is) and dropping a lot of inf into it to find out the build isn't much good.

The toon will team but I want to be able to solo effectively. I've dropped Shadow Punch from my build but I'm wondering if I should have kept it for building fury. I like Shadow Maul but the long cast time makes me wonder if I should ditch it. I'm in two minds about taking Taunt or not.

The ancillary power are there for flavour really so they are droppable, but I'd like to keep them.

Anyway, without further ado I present to you Herla:

Not bad but one thing that I learned from building my DM/SD scrapper it is very nice to have at least soft capped def which in the case of the shield would be the positional def at 45% you will see alot of diff in the tankage once you do. swapping the purples for some sets with more def on them could be a good thing. or a quick phurchace of a Glad Armor proc and a Steadfast proc will give you a quick 6% def to all

Now on to siphon life, The best way I have found to do it is 6 HOs 3 Nucleolus and 3 Golgi. It really helps you stay alive. Seeing how my scrapper has 160% recharge you might need to change the slotting so you can get it to come back faster.

Far as SM goes it is nice having all 6 geddons in it but I liked it better when I dropped one for the Furry of the Glad proc

Also in AD you might want to put a Membrane so you get a better -def res

I really doubt you will have any problem with end so you can drop the DC which would free up a spot for Hasten. If you do see that you are having end problems you can put Ribos in Tough.

So the one thing I would really say is to take full advantage of the HOs in a build like that they can help out a ton.

Heh, there's no such thing as a "quick purchase" of the Gladiator's Armor +Def IO. If there's even one on the market--and often there isn't--they've been selling for 2 billion apiece with a large number of unfilled bids in place. In other words, don't count on getting one.

However, getting the Steadfast +Def is a great idea; you can slot it in Tough or True Grit.

Other than that, Deflection, BA and Weave are all currently overslotted for Defense. I'd drop back to 4 defense set slots in each, then add a couple of common resist IOs to Deflection to beef up your S/L resistance. I'd do the same for Tough; 3 Aegis will even give you a small AoE defense bonus as well. (Though I don't see much point in the Psi/Status IO since you have such a small amount of Psi resists to begin with.)

If you're going to slot Soul Drain with ToHit Buff set, add an 6th slot and put in a full set of Gaussian's, which will give you a 2.5% defense bonus for all positions. (With just adding the Steadfast +Def and the Gaussian's set you'll be over 44% Melee def.)

I'd also recommend slotting at least one Mako's set for the Ranged bonus. You could do more to get close to the soft-cap for Ranged and AoE, but you'd have to give up the purples, so your call whether you want to try for a fully soft-capped build or not.

Just want to note though I understand that you want the AoE bonus, Shield Defense does *not* need additional KB protection, so those BotZ -KB IOs are a very expensive way to get some AoE defense. I don't think it's worth it, but your call.

Lastly, one of the benefits of Grant Cover is that it provides additional defense debuff resistance. Over the life of your character, it may do more for you than One with the Shield.

I don't know what you are wanting to do with your brute but there ^^ is a build with soft capped def w/o PF running

Also if you are wanting to run soul drain as a tohit put the Gaussian and swap a set of Mako's for Touch of Death. and you can squeek by w/o the glad proc
