Questions about Psi/Devices

How does Psi rank in terms of primaries?

I grabbed it because AR with Devices just seemed completely non-inventive and I thought Psi would be good later game due to not encountering much resistance.

The real reason I got Devices was I just loved the idea of trip mine and after seeing a PvP MM with it finally just had to do it.

What happens to trip mines if I die?

Assume they disappear when I zone but would be interesting if not after death as long as you rezzed in that zone.

Is there a limit to how many you can set up?

What is the base recharge?minimum?

What exactly does "point blank area of effect" mean range wise?(as in how many feet)

Will they make each other do off? like if I make a line of them and they are to close will one waste all the others?

What other sets is trip mine in?

It's so-so. It's got decent single-target damage and some mitigation cabaility (knockback, sleep, stun and -rech) but it is weak in terms of AoE.

They die as well. I think they blow up (potentially damage anyone nearby) but I'm not sure.

They last for 4m 20s (if no one trips them) so the max is 260seconds divided by recharge time + cast time. Cast tiem is 4 seconds, recharge is 20 by default. Theoretical minimum recharge is 4seconds but you need a lot of external buffs for that. It's about 12 seconds for an SO'd build (assuming 2 recharge IOs since you want damage and accuracy in there as well), 8-10 seconds if you've got a recharge heavy IO build.

First thanks for all the answers.


Second so that means if I had lots of kins with SB and a good build I could lay out 302.5, correct?

also since I haven't got it yet what is the base damage at the lv you get it? 50?


and does Hami spawn in a location predictable by 12 feet? has anyone ever had multiple recharge maxed blasters lay out trip mines for say 1/2 an hour then spawn hami and go boom? with Hami's hp could you even have enough blasters in one instance of a zone to take him out right as he spawns?

1/2 an hour of spamming one power might be worth it if hami just went splat, if it didn't work you could end up with multiple blooms.

Actually the maximum would be 32.5. There was a typo in my original post, they last for 4m 20s not 40m 20s .

The problem with this is timing. Trip Mines only last 4minutes and it take slonger than that for Hami to spawn.

well besides timing could it even be done with full damage buffs and only say 32 blasters?(28 over people to kill monsters, and buff)

If you wanna PvP with this? don't

I tried to do it (purp'd it out and everything) and it doesn't compare to a /em blaster. boost range and build up are *that* good.

if you wanna pve with this? don't

psi's damage is mediocre at best and dev is very very slow for damage.

basically you're better off with basically any other combo than this.


Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

but its already 10 lol, and don't want to redo the dam costume got it just right

Well, that's why the costume screen (both in character creation and at the tailor) has a Save button...

Anyways, don't listen to the negativity. If you've found it fun so far, keep going. with it.

Just be careful around machine enemies - apparently they get very good resistance to psionic damage. Make sure you take Telekinetic Blast (half of its damage is Smashing) to have something useful against them for when you solo (on teams, of course, you can usually fight other things and let your teammates handle the machine types). Also grab Psychic Focus (this set's version of Aim - not as good, damage-wise, as a Build Up, but better than nothing) for a little bit of extra OOMPH.

well in all fairness, any blaster is fun at level 10. it's when you get up in the higher levels that the combo really starts to show how horrible it really is

I was not looking for a top combo, just wanted to make sure it wasn't one of the almost unplayable combos.

having only the very best is pretty dam stupid and boring.

One of the nifty things about /devices is that you can leave your secondary mostly at one slot. A single recharge enhancer in caltrops will keep you out of melee quite nicely, and let you solo fine; a single endurance reducer in targeting drone will still leave you with enough endurance (and damage) to solo well, thanks to improved chances to hit mobs.

The light slotting needs for /devices, and good defenses, allow you to slot up your primary quickly; that helps while leveling up. And, the ability to stack stuns (your primary and secondary each have one that's up reasonably often, and the psy nuke also stuns) allows you to handle bosses reasonably well.

I have a psy/devices at 30 who has solo'd his way almost exclusively, no IOs, and the ride getting there has been very easy.
