I am playing with the idea of a DA tanker, but I am having trouble with what to pick with it. I made a Dark Melee and as much as I love the concept, I don't know if I can overcome the lack of AoE in the set. Will my AoE need be controlled when I get Dark Consumption and Midnight grasp or do those do pitiful damage? I was thinking Electric might be alright since it has a chance to give me end to help with DA end problems. Let me know what has worked for you. TYVM!

Well, Electric would also help with the AoE, if memory serves.

Well, for starters, you're thinking of Soul Drain, not Midnight Grasp. And yes, on a tank the damage will be pathetic. The only AT they are worth slotting for damage on is a brute, and even then the damage is nothing to write home about. They're also on a looooooong recharge, so not very useful as attacks.

Electric would work well I think. Energy has a useful secondary effect in it's stuns that will stack with Oppressive Gloom, but it's even worse on AoE. Fire is a nice AoE set, but it doesn't really have a helpful secondary effect. War Mace and Battle Axe are a pretty good mix of ST and AoE with knockdowns and stuns in War Mace's case. (both have knockdowns, War Mace has at least 2 stuns in it)

Super Strength has one AoE attack, but it's one of the best in the game. Stone is awesome, but will kill your end bar. Dual Blades might not be bad.

Hard to say really, I'll leave the detail stuff to those who know the sets better.

Midnight Grasp does a fair amount of damage. Dark Consumption is useful for endurance, but not up enough to really play a part in an attack chain.

Dark/Mace has more AoEs, and stuns that may offer some synergy; so do Dark/Stone and Dark/Super Strength. Dark/EM is very consistent, but you want more AoE, and that will give you even less.

Dark/Dual Blades works if you are going to take only the bare minimum from your primary and concentrate on your secondary, but seems more promising as a scrapper. I have a Fire/DB tanker nearing completion, built on the same principle.

Dark/Stone makes for a very tough tank. You'll tank well providing control keeping almost everything near you stunned with Oppressive Gloom and Fault keeping everything stunned. Stone also has a lot of mitigation in Knock Up. Its a fabulously survivable set.

It will drain endurance.
Tremor is a slow activating AoE.
But with multiple aggro grabbing aura's you'll really be a tremendous tank and be able to hold aggro ridiculously well.

In Electric, don't count on the Endurance coming back to you being very helpful, you always spend more in Endurance attacking then you get back.

Dual Blades is cheap on Endurance usage, but a little deceiving since they activate so fast you still can burn through a goodly amount of endurance.

With proper slotting even Dark/Stone works, just make a conscious effort to slot for endurance in your attacks.

Dark Melee is certainly more focused on ST attacks, not AoE's. I do enjoy playing my Dark/Dark tank as she can tank most thing quite nicely. She doesn't do great damage, but she survives nicely.

When I get around to making another Dark/ tank I'll be leaning more towards /Electric or /Mace. In the end I suspect I'll be rolling up a Dark/Electric first.
