How do you make lava?
You slide the bonfire under a raised floor section.
Raise the floor section where you want the lava. Next to it, have a floor section a step lower than the lava area.
Drop a bonfire onto the lower area, and angle your camera so you can slide the bonfire under the floor into the lava area - WITHOUT TOUCHING THE FLOOR of the lava area.
If your cursor touches the lava's floor, it will pop the bonfire up onto the surface instead of staying at the elevation of the lower area.
Once you have the fire or fires placed how you want them, adjust the lowest lighting to an intense hellish red-orange and pick a lava-looking floor pattern. For best effect lower the lighting in the upper areas of the room.

there are also some flat sections in dark speckly red that I don't get how to do.

Go to the pick style button... select the floor section you wish to alter (be sure you are altering the right level, check the tab label)... and choose the Miyuki Gravel. There should be a color palette window where you can choose a primary and secondary floor coloring.
Some folks also use this pattern colored in blues & greens in conjunction with a slow field to simulate a watery/pool look.

I've seen several pictures of lava floors, all done similarly. I understand the "bonfire under dirt" sections, but there are also some flat sections in dark speckly red that I don't get how to do.
