Super-exemplaring vs. IO sets.

Hi, my name is SkarmoryThePG. I like IOs, having all the same levels on my enhancements, long walks on the beach and exemplaring down to 30. Before Super-Sidekick, I slotted only 33s, as those gave me all those neat bonuses when I exemplared down to 30. But what do I do now, Dear Market? Should I upgrade to 38? What should I do?

I assumed that the SSK system made no changes to how set bonuses work with regard to the level at which they stop working. If I am wrong I'd love to know and see where I can get the details of the changes.

If you exemplar to 30, then you get to use your level 35 power but level 34 or 35 IOs will be no good, so far as I understand it.

My advice is to keep your 33 IOs.

Set bonuses when Exemplared are still based on Combat Level, that is, the level you are exemped down to. While you now keep powers up to +5 levels, you are not considered as having those +5 levels, so bonuses that high won't work. In your example of exemping down to 30, level 33 is the highest level enhancement that will give you a set bonus, even though you have powers up to level 35.

Yep, agreed with the replies above. The new 5-level leeway on your powers doesn't apply to your actual combat level, and so your IOs stop working where they used to before. Level 33s sound like a good idea.

now here is a related question. I have a dom that I took to Warburg the other day. I lost all recharge bonus except for 7.5% i don't have any lotgs slotted so i was looking for that 7.5 bonus. i didn't have any level 41 sets slotted but I believe my snipe set (sting of the manticore?) was granting me a bonus because one of them was lvl 40. the rest were high 40s or 50. is this a bug or can you really get the set bonuses by just having one at the low level?

It's not a bug, it's actually how they work.

You don't lose bonuses, including special bonuses like those from LotG:Recharges, when you lose the power the IOs are slotted in. Instead you only lose the bonuses when you get more than 3 levels below the IOs levels. If you slot one half of a set with level 30s, one half with level 50s, and then exemplar to level 40, you'll still have the 1st two set bonuses (for the 3 level 30 IOs) slotted in that power, even if you don't have access to the power at level 40.

Edit: This is different for procs, since they rely on the power being activated to do anything. If you don't have a power, you can't activate it, and the procs in it can't activate either. Things like Miracle and Numina uniques are, essentially, procs with a 100% chance to activate.

maybe i need to go back at look but warburg exemps to 38 which would mean 41 and below on set bonuses to work right? i was fairly certain i was getting the bonus for 5 stings while only having one 41 or below. but i could be wrong.

Well, check it out sometime and let us know what you find. Heaven knows the way they actually work is confusing enough that maybe the whole set does stick around. I didn't think it did.
