I find myself returning to DM.....

I have a 50 BS/Regen & 37 Kat/WP Scrap, 50 WS, 34 SS/WP & 40 EM/Elec Brute but I cant help coming back to DM. I also have a 50 DM/FA Brute who was my first toon I ever made the first day CoV came out and I loved DM lvling it but FA feels to squishy. Now for x2 XP weekend i want to make a blueside DM toon but which should I go with 2ndary wise, I'm torn between /WP & /SD. WP seems to be more a single target monster where as SD is an AoE monster. I'd love for him to be great at TF's and farming when needed, but mainly for TF's and I feel he'd be my main. Any suggestions?

DM would pair well with either of them.
Actually, I think DM pairs well with just about anything. Its a bag of tricks for every occasion.

But DM offers more to supplement Shields than it does to Willpower, and Vice Versa.
Siphon Life provides a missing element of Shields survival (healing).
Willpower OTOH gains somewhat from SL, but with double-stacked Health/Fast Healing and Stamina/Quick Recovery, two of the nice DM powers (Siphon, Dark Consumption) lose some of their strength.

Shields will benefit immensely from Siphon Life, Dark Consumption and the -Acc secondary in your attacks will really help out till IOs really start boosting your survival.

Finally, just the thought of Soul Drain +Saturated AAO + Shield Charge just makes me smile.

P.S. Just read your sig thats too funny !

DM/SD

It's gone from flavor of the month to a beloved classic, and for good reason. It's an excellent combination, arguably the strongest Scrapper combination for some high end play. Farming... well, that's not one of its strengths, though the fault lies with DM, not SD. Still, add Fireball to the combo, and you should do pretty well. A lot better than Dark Melee/Willpower in any case.

Alright, say I have around 100mil to spare for an IO build. I could use Ninja Run as a travel power or prefer SJ if it's needed. What is a suggested build I should make once i ding 50? If it's possible, i'd like to have both Soul Drain and Dark Consumption, if not, drop DC.

I love my DM/SD you just need the money to build it right ... it took over 15 bill for me to finally get a build that I like but it is fully soft capped, has 30+ HPS + SL and dose not need dark consumption as it is fully end stable, so if you have the money I would say go /SD hands down. One pointer I can give you is look hard into getting a nice amount of HOs into your build and also the Glad armor proc; It was the make or break for the build I am running It allowed me to put 2 extra purple sets in while staying at softcap def which was nice for the extra recover, acc and recharge. I mainly PvP with him which he dose a heck of a job. But he has also never came across a AV that he could not solo.

As far as WP goes as said above in the quoted text you will not get the full benefit of the power set choice. yet it will cost ALOT less to build compared to the /SD and still be able to do almost everything that a /SD could. You would just be lacking the mitigation from a soft capped def and the dmg boost/debuff that AAO gives you which makes it much more viable for taking on more mobs at one time, or a mob that has spike dmg as you have a very high chance to mitigate the dmg from the mob allowing your passive regen and your SL to keep you at full HP at almost all times. plus you have the nice power shield charge to keep the floor clean of adds while you are fighting a av

Surely to god there has to be a way to softcap under 1bill let alone 15bill! I just want something viable at 50 softcapped and decent damage

you might be able to do it I just went all out on that build it is my baby

It would be hard just one set of purple is over 1bill much less a glad proc, numina proc, lotg 7.5s, miracle proc, and HOs

(None of which are needed to softcap)

Don't worry about all of that super expensive stuff. Keep an eye out for Touch of Death, Mako's Bite, Red Fortune, Scirroccos dervish, and Obliteration. Make sure you get tough and weave and put the steadfast 3% def IO in tough. You can get one of those super easy by doing bronze rolls with MA tickets at the lowest level. 60 tickets for a roll. When you wanna start getting the really expensive uniques either farm Ouro or do TFs to earn merits. It's up to you whether you want to do random rolls or work towards a specific set, but I've been lucky with random rolls in the past.

You don't need anywhere near 1 billion to get a high recharge, soft-cap DM/Shield. Once you get there though, you'll be practically invinicible. Like Werner said, once you get Fireball you can use that and shield charge to fill in your AoE gap. Not great, but it'll do you. The real magic is your ability to solo pretty much anything once you're built right.

BTW, for Siphon life, is it better to slot for damage or healing? Is it better to slot it with Nictus?

Siphon is a great attack, so you can slot it like an attack, or... like I have done and frankenslot it for Healing and Damage. Just depends on how much you want it to heal.

Base is 10% per use, slotted to max heal will get it to 18-19%. I have mine at 15%, and the damage is still in the +75% range. Make sure you slot ACC, and some End reduction or recharge if you can.

Here is a relatively inexpensive build that has soft capped defenses. You really don't need the Luck of the Gambler's for it. It's just a luxery. The only issue is that it is .9 away from AoE soft cap

I slotted with four kinetic combats (Because mine is an invuln) and two touch of nictus. If you do that make sure you slot the acc/heal IO from nictus because kin combat is so light on accuracy

If you have enough recharge bonuses you can slot 3 Gogli and 3 Nucleous exposures for 95% to acc, dmg, end, and heal.

Santorican, In the build you posted it has Super Speed without a pre-req. I noticed you sloted the BoZ in it so I'm going to assume I could swap it out and take SJ and also take hasten instead of grant cover and keep everything the same, right?

You can but I like having 95% defense debuff resistance so that way i can keep my defenses up at a higher % when I'm getting my defense debuffed. You can just shuffle around Hasten and Super Speed, I got my 60 month vet badge so I can take Super Speed at level 6, sorry about that lol.
