I am new to CoH and this is my first real build. It has been tough but let me know your thoughts.

Several things:

Generally, with generic SO/IO slotting, most people tend to put 1 acc 3 damage in each regular attack. This gives you capped % to connect with even-con critters and max damage (at least with non-yellow SOs or lvl 30+ IOs) for each attack, so that you don't waste endurance.

Cobra Strike is an exception because it's not a regular attack, and does anemic damage. (It's probably not worth slotting much when you don't have plentiful slots.)

Someone else can give you much better advice on the value of the regular attacks in MA.

Focus Chi should not be slotted for ToHit (again, a luxury of high level, slot-heavy characters if at all), but rather recharge.

Your secondary powers are not the best ones from the set, other than Temp Invulnerability. You absolutely, positively should pick up Unyielding at 16, and it can serve on a single end reducer enhancement for a long while. That will make things a lot easier, as you won't be stunned half the time. Resist Elements is a power only affordable for higher level toons, and neither it nor Resist Physical Damage should see any slotting beyond the default slot early on. (Each SO in those powers basically adds 1% more resistance to a couple damage types. So the 100 pt smashing attack that would do 93 damage--with a single resistance SO--would do only 91 damage with your slotting.) Dull Pain is a much better choice than RE; its recharge is long so it should be first slotted with 3 recharge, then heal as slotting permits. When you can access Invulnerability at 28 and Tough Hide at 35 you should take them.

The second slot in Health could be better spent elsewhere (i.e., in attacks).

If you don't have any respecs, I would suggest switching to your alternate build and restarting. If you can't afford SOs/IOs to do that, tinker a bit in the market.

Thank you.

That's a big help man!

What's the easiest, or rather cheapest way to respec?

I can most likely find a way to do that and from your response I can already see that should solve most of my problems if not all.

nvm... working on it right now some with peeps. ty again.

Hello DJ,

I thought that instead of explaining all the things you could fix on your build,
here is where I would probably be at level 23 with your powers.

I don't play MA/Inv, but I have levelled MA/WP, MA/SR and KAT/INV past the point where you are, so I am confident that this build will be plenty capable.

One thing you will need to consider later is a respec. You will not need all 5 of the attacks in this build and I would seriously consider dropping Thunder Kick or replacing it with Cobra Strike (in your 30s or 40s).

I usually level a character up to 22 and then plan a build in Mids, and switch to my second build at a trainer and do a pseudo-respec that way. Just make sure that you slot only store-bought enhancements in your "Build-1", and of course you will need the influence to re-slot the "Build-2" since it will be empty.

Thanks guys, both of you have been very helpful.

Bio-

With your experience where would think I need to concentrate more on? If I wait until 28 to go for more defense with Invincibility should I worry about Resist Elements or Energies, or concentrate more the martial arts for Focus Chi, Cobra Strike or others? Would working on a different pool power been an even better idea than trying to gather more attacks?

I was thinking of Teleportation or Leadership at this point.

*Edit
Second thoughts...
I think it's really more of a question of would those other power pools be a better benefit over more attacks for the next two choices until Invincibility is an option.

DJ,
I am by no means an expert on Invulnerability. MY SG leader plays an Invuln Tank, so I can speak from his expertise (RL Brother) and from my more limited experience. So here are my thoughts;

I personally LOVE passives, so I would fit in Resist Energies and Resist Elements (the former first). Some folks will steer you away from them, but once you start slotting IOs, having those passives will be pretty attractive.

For Defense, you absolutely want Invincibility as soon as it opens up (28 iirc) and slot it up as soon as you can fit in the slots. On melee characters, I am a big fan of Combat Jumping +Weave to lay the ground work for my overall defense. But that means taking an attack like boxing/kick. In general they offer little to a scrapper's normal attack rotation, so I usually just 2-slot Boxing with Pounding Slugfest for the 8% regen set bonus and take it off my bar. If you find yourself tight on pool or power picks, then you could just take Maneuvers + CJ, or even CJ by itself and get the rest of your defense from IO sets.
There are alot of options.

For attacks, as I mentioned, the sample build has 5 attacks in it. Thats probably more than you need, since you will probably want Dragon's Tail and Eagle's Claw. Add in Cobra Strike and you are looking at 8 attacks (Way more than you will need at 50). So, my advice would be to play them all, figure out what your playstyle is. Some folks skip Cobra Strike and go all-out dps. If thats your thing, then you will probably want Storm Kick, Crane Kick, Crippling Axe Kick and then 1 more attack of choice or opportunity (Like Air Superiority, Thunder Kick, Cobra Strike or Eagle's Claw). Once you determine which 4-5 attacks you really want, then respec your build to remove the excess attacks.

Teleportation.... well, this pool has always been and probably always will be simply for concept. If your character concept is a porter, then go for it. Otherwise, you may have a hard time fitting in all the pool choices to help your survival out.

For me Fitness is a must, followed by a travel pool like leaping

you could go: Fitness, Leaping, Leadership, Teleportation

or... Fitness, Leaping, Fighting, Teleportation

or even.... Fitness, Fighting, Leadership, Leaping

just some ideas. I hope this helps.

Since I have flight, i think I will stick with that as a travel.. but i will go with tele and leadership later. leadership first i think.

thanks again for the help.

BTW, guys... I just finished the four part story arc for Oroborus i think?

The new builds really help a lot and it was great to play with this character and not have to worry at all about having any real difficulty.

I made it through fairly quickly and had a lot of fun with them!

If you want, tune into my show on KJSR.net this weekend. This Saturday on my show I am doing a comic trivia contest. Feel free to tune in and try to answer a question for a prize pack.

The show is 5-7pm Est Saturday and you must answer the questions correctly by the end of the show to win something. Details and rules on the DJ Everyman Facebook page...

Here's how he has ended up on LV 50, let me know what you think and if anyone feels there is something I might need to change.

I have noticed some end drain at times but rarely, and only on occasion the lacking of some defense that I wish I had.
