First attempt with sets, Arch/Dev

Adeon Hawkwood

As noted by the title, this is my first try at IO sets. Nothing too complicated, but I'd still like to get some advice if I can.

I had planned to get soft capped ranged def, but didn't quite make it. If there are any obvious mistakes, don't hesitate to point them out.

When you export a build from Mids' you need to use the BBBcode formatting to have it work correctly on these forums.

Heh, one mistake already.

Thanks Adeon.

Ok, first off standard disclaimer since you may or may not know. That is a VERY expensive build. Most of those Purples will run between 150million and 300million per IO.

I don't have Mid's available right now but a few comments:

1. You don't need all 6 Apoc IOs in Snap Shot. Personally I'd drop the Dam/Rech given the 2 second recharge but YMMV. Actually I'd stick the Apoc set in Blazing Arrow (and drop the Dam/End maybe?) since the primary advantage of Purples is that they have high recharge and work better in more powerful abilities.

2. It's not really worth enhancing the defense of Hover and Cloaking Device. The LotG 7.5% is worth having but the others are really only giving you the regen and health set bonuses. That's not bad but I'll bet you can find a better use for them

3. I dislike the GSFC set in Targeting Drone but that's a personal preference, it's got some nice set bonuses so if it works for you then go for it. I'm also of the opinion that the Build Up Proc is horribly over-rated in targeting Drone, but I acknowledge that it's a minority opinion.

4. Personally I wouldn't bother with the Hold proc in Web 'Nade. The main place I use it is against Bosses and AVs and the Hold doesn't work against them. Consider more immob duration (to make it easier to stack) or Endurance reduction (it's a real end hog).

5. The procs in Caltrops are of limited utility. Caltrops has an "afraid" effect so enemies don't spend a whole lot of time in the patch. The Ragnarok proc in particulr is much better of in either RoA (replace the Dam/End) of Fistful of Arrows (adds a nice bit of mitigation). Personally I like a bit of slow reduction in Caltrops to increase the effect against higher level enemies.

6. For Stunning Shot I would consider Stupefy superior to Absolute Amazement. The Recharge bonus is only a little lower and you get more ranged defense. Remember, Purples are not always the best thing to slot.

7. In Fistful of Arrows you should probably put the Acc/Dam/End back in. I'd drop the Dam/Range since 6ft doesn't make a lot of difference in my experience. If you want to keep it then drop the Acc/Dam instead.

8. Personally I'd slot up Explosive Arrow before Repulsion Bomb. In either power the Dam/Range is the best IO to leave out of Positron's. Range helps a lot more for cones than other powers.

Just a few thoughts to get you started .

Probably should have mentioned that this was going to be an unlimited inf build, barring only the PvP sets.

You've got some good points, I'll make some adjustments relatively soon and hopefully repost if I'm not too busy.

If someone can give their opinion/experience of using the Build Up proc in Gaussian's with Targeting Drone or of using the procs in Caltrops it'd be much appreciated.

Made most of the changes you suggested. Going to wait on changing the procs until there's other feedback.

A few (longwinded) thoughts:

1) When 5 slotting purple sets its usually customary to leave out the single effect IO as the purple sets are WAY overslotted for the main efffect. Unless you plan to run a TON of Posi/synapse tfs, you are basically wasting alot. In blazing arrrow, replace the Damage with the Dam/End, it will cost you about 10 damage but save over 2.5 end every time you fire it off. In trip mine I'd replace the damage with the Acc/Rech, again, costs about 10% damge, but gets you 33% recharge. More Trip mines > sligh damage buff to each (IMHO).

2) Remove the Posi dam/rech from caltrops. the damage is negligible and the set bonus is over the limit of 5, so you won't be getting it anyways. Replace with a rech IO or put the KD proc in there. I have it and love it. As for min/maxing, yeah, not really the best, but it does help improve the mitigation of the trops if they fall down while trying to run away.

3) With all the Acc bonuses from Posis and purples, why even bother with targetting drone? I would ditch it and replace it with taser so you have a second stun to stack with Stunning shot should you decide you want to stun a boss, then fill the 6 slots with Stupify. It's calssified as Melee, but does have a 20ft range. You'll actually gain .63% ranged def and 6.25% recharge this way while saving some end.

4) Replace the celerity: stealth with the unbound leap one. does the same thing for 20% of the cost.

Oops, forgot a few things:

The suggestions above leave you with an extra slot. I would personally remove the Numina's: Heal from health (will drop your regen from 12.2/s to 10.9/s) as well as the chance for recharge slow in caltrops (only a 20% chance for 20% rech slow, and they dont often stop to shoot you while running through it anyways) and addd those 3 slots to Web Grenade to 5 slot the Grav Anchor for the extra Acc and Recharge (not that you need em, but hey, why not?)

Well first off if you exemplar down you lose quite a few of the accuracy bonuses. Secondly it's a To Hit bonus rather than an accuracy bonus so against higher con enemies it makes a LOT of difference. Finally it also provides a perception buff and resistance toboth perception and to hit debuffs which is handy against several of the more annoying enemy types (Malta, Arachnos, CoT ghosts). Also, it looks cool.

You would lose the acc bonuses from the posi's and what not, but the 15% from each purple set would still be in effect, and 60% global acc buff is nothing to sneeze at. Most exeemplaring in my experience has been for running task forces, and 60% global acc buff would be enough to hit even conning enemies at low levels, and when added to any slotting, definitely more than enough. If the OP want to keep it for asthetic reasons, or to protect against -to hit buffs, that's great, it's their build, but let's make sure they have all the correct info so they can make their own decision.

BTW, what to hit debuffs or perception debuffs to malta have? Not saying there aren't any, just that I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Definitely a different build than mine, with a few different power choices, but similar feeling on TD. Personally, I get a lot of mileage out of TD fully slotted with Gaussian's.

Your recharge is about 4 seconds faster than mine on Hasten, but I am about .6% away from the ranged softcap. That being said, based on the current power choices (I won't comment there because I don't know anything about your playstyle), the third BotZ IO in Hover really isn't doing a whole lot for you. You could probably move that slot elsewhere and get more bang for your buck. As for recall friend, if you get a lot of use out of it, then great. Personally, I would switch some power choices and the level you got them at around, take Superspeed instead of recall friend, you can slot it the same, and get the benefit of near invisibility with it and CD activated.

Just my two cents.

The nice thing about Devices is that you can get PvE invisibility (against most enemies) with just Cloaking Device and a Stealth IO in Sprint. Given that Recall Friend is a lot more useful than Super Speed.

Sometimes I like being able to move quickly, which the stealth IO in sprint doesn't give me. When I am farming some missions in Oro for merits, and I am not killing everything in sight, and clicking blinkies or destroying objects, the extra speed is more useful than Recall Friend, because it is a matter of finishing the mission quickly and moving on to the next one. That is just a matter of taste though, and my Arch/Dev solos more than it groups.

Oh yeah, and more importantly, not delving into the teleport stuff freed up other pool choices that aided in defense for my toon, and still allowed me to used BotZ on an additional power with the near invis. So all in all, a win for what I was looking to accomplish.

One more thought...

You could drop RF, take Combat Jumping, move the extra BoTZ from Hover, drop it in CJ, leave a two slotted BoTZ, add a LoTG + recharge, add in some more defense and recharge to your build, which this slotting for CJ is pretty close to how I have mine slotted. You should get more mileage out of that than RF.

On a previous build I had Stunning Shot and Taser, hovering in close for Taser wasn't my really my thing as I'd usually keep darting back and forth. As said before, Gaussian's has some nice set bonuses and the Build Up proc couldn't hurt and there's the debuff resists. This is just going to be a personal preference for me this time.

To Nytemynde, I'd likely have followed your suggestion, but I end up ghosting a lot and using Recall numerous times during TFs and such.

I know I could have pushed all the way for the ranged def, but I'm trying to get a balance between what I feel I need for my build and what I'd just like to have. I wouldn't mind seeing your build if you'd be willing to post it though.

Well, that I can understand. My arch/dev is more of a selfish build, made to solo, made for defense, and for recharge. On the defense aspect, what put's me over on where I need/want to be is Smoke Grenade. I use it as a debuffing tool and pretty much for active defense (the -7.55% To Hit debuff is almost like a defense buff). I use it often, and I have seen the difference it makes.

As for sharing the build, well, I've never shared it on these boards, BUT since the build is complete, and the character won't see much action until possibly GR, and since it fits my playstyle perfectly, performs how I want it to perform...I can throw it up here for perusal, and let whoever wants to bash it do so if they feel they must...since other people's opinions at this point won't change anything I choose to do with this toon. I know it works, and wouldn't change it for the world. It performs well for me in the solo arena and for teams:
