Hello folks, need some advice if you please

I'm thinking of dusting this character off and came up with a few builds I'm thinking of going with. I was hoping to come up with something that would do well on teams, as well as solo.

I have one that's soft capped to S/L and melee, but the lack of energy and negative defense is lacking, so I'm also looking at something that's kinda of a middle ground.

The first build has decent overall defense, and 1 luck will put me over the softcap to a lot of damage types. I'm also assuming on teams with buffs/debuffs this will be enought.

The second build, while great in the the above mentioned areas, is lacking in others. I love the recharge and acc as well.

I know if I just wanted run ITF all day long I'd go with the second build, but that's no fun. I pretty much have my mind set on the first build as of now. My only real worry with it is the lack of acc in my single target attacks.

Any thoughts on improving either are welcome.

Oh yeah, the first build is gonna be cheaper as well.

The soft-capped Smashing/Lethal build will be more survivable than the other build. Both builds will get hammered by defense debuffs and you will need to use purples as ablative armor just to keep you above the soft cap. Having to eat a purple just to cap yourself will not be as effective as it sounds. You need to save purple inspirations for when cascade failure starts to happen, literally the second that you see your Smashing/Lethal stat monotor drop below 45%, because it happens VERY fast when you're on a large team.

However, my opinion is that Dm/Fire benefits more from recharge, max HP, and regeneration to facilitate cycling your heals. Siphon Life at 20% every 4.5 seconds, Healing Flames at 50% every 13 seconds, and running Darkest Night without nerfing your offense is better IMO. I'd prefer to leverage an AoE immobilize, Midnight Grasp (there's your stacked mag for bosses), and Burn properly. You really give up a lot to soft cap, and I would only run the smashing/lethal build as a second build on Master/Tank roles, adding taunt for agro management. Proper heals and Darkest Night, which effectively adds defense through ToHit debuffs and resistance through -damage, will be quite tough in most situations while having far superior offense.

That's just my opinion. I feel the soft-cap craze is overrated compared to working within your primary/secondary and having overclocked offensive capabilities.

I do use a soft capped DM/ELA as my second build for when I want to tank a MoX run, but it makes HUGE sacrifices to get there, just as in your builds.

I run two builds on my DM/FA. One that has 150 Global w/ hasten and the other with 100 global with hasten and 45 S/L. I have all hp and end accolades powers. I have to say the 45 S/L is the is the less expensive build due to a no purples. The 45 S/L is the superior of the two. With the 45 s/l and the two heal is just a great combo. You still take some damage but your heals more then cover it. When the recharge build you end up see alot more damage and it can be struggle to up with the damage with alot of mobs.

Having said that I keep the big recharge build for soloing AV and such because on single target hard hitter, the DM to hit debuff covers alot of what your missing with Def. That and faster recharge on Healing flames and Siphon life is better when going up against a single is nice to have.

Both directions have there strength but for normal group play or farming I find the S/L capped on to be the better choice. If I could only go with one it would be to soft cap s/l.

Thanks for the input guys. I did a few AE runs just to see how my build would stand up to a good bit of damage (+2/6) and I'm very happy with it. That's only with the 5 sets of Oblit slotted and no recharge except for those in the sets. Once I get all the Kinetic Combat and LoTGs, I have no doubt I'll be even more pleased.

I haven't played this since I made it when CoV first came out. I also have no other brutes. I'm just having so much fun with fury ATM that I was very much loling on that map. Got a friend a few levels on her scrap in a short amount of time

I have a Invul/SS tank that can run this mish all day long and laugh at the damage, but when it comes to damage output, this brute just makes my tank look silly.
