IO build for Shield Defense/Electric Melee Tank
The numbers over all for a shield tanker seem a tiny bit lacking in my opinion. Now please don't take my word as the only word, but I have played a shield scrapper, and with Shield defense, It is fairly simple to get both ranged and melee defense soft capped. You may want to try for a couple sets of Mako's Bite which provides a massive 3.75% defense boost to ranged defense, and Obliteration's you can slot in several of you massive AoE attacks like Lightning Rod and Shield Charge and even Thunder Strike, and Obliteration provides 3.75% defense to melee defense.
Over all your numbers seem pretty good but they definitely could be a bit higher, I am not sure how far off you are from fully slotted or not but I would try for at least Melee and Ranged soft capped at 45%.

I finished the build for my tank a few days ago and have been wondering what other players would think of the defense numbers I was able to come up with.
The tank is still only 47, so I have still can accumulate more defense via the rest of my enhancements. I only have normal IO sets in my build. Purple sets are too expensive and I dont play the high end game enough anymore to be patient enough for em to drop. And pvp IOs are out of the question. With that said, I would like peoples' opinions on these defense numbers for my shield defense tank. Ranged 38.82% Melee 43.19% AoE 46.63% S/L is 11% Fire/cold is 10% Energy/NE is 8% I also was able to have regen of 1.42%/sec So what do yall think? Good numbers? SJ |

I really just wanted good comparison. i spent too much inf and time on the current build and am happy enough with it to keep it as is. would require too many respecs to max out the numbers anyway. maybe after next issue i can tweak it a bit. i will likely be 50 by then at anyrate.

As a rule I wouldnt have a single target attack without atleast 4 slots of damage, its main attribute, unless it was kick or boxing, preqs to get Tough and Weave. Thunderstrike would have to do more damage for me as that is it's main attribute. Where there is either regen, res or def, I'd slot for them, thats unless the bonuses per slot were low and then still aim to soft cap it all.
Imagine yourself with the +end and +hp accolades..and then with one with the shield activated, I'd probably aim to simply hit the hp cap with that as desired minimum. I could run with that. In the end what ever my powers do most of, they'll get to do more of that first and foremost with my slotting. Then with that in mind I'd aim for def soft cap and +rechg whilst slotting to do the main things.
All attacks that I'd use, do good to near maximum damage per end, which is a "why hit them twice when you can hit them once?" type of thinking. From that I'll work out my attack chain, then the average end cost per second of the attack chain. End recovery will then preferably be that cost plus the total end cost of all the toggles and not much more, leaving conserve for end drain emergencies from -end rec powers.
It'll be just mostly accentuating everything about the basic build. Thats all I ever do for myself and it does me. Good choice with fly.

Melee: 46.8%
Ranged: 53.4%

Thanks a bunch of importing/exporting that data. And for the input. That build you suggest looks good but like i said would require several respecs. I do however have most of the IOs already along with an extra lotg +rech. I prefer flight though as a travel power though. In a few weeks I will be getting my 60 month and gonna be eventually respecing out of air superiority anyhow to open another power elsewhere.
When I17 gets released with it's freespec and i have that 60 monther, i will give this another go and see what i can do. If nothing else to preserve the higher priced IOs i can soak the cost of the cheaper sets and buy the other stuff i need.
Gonna be testing that build x8 team this weekend soloing to see how it holds up. then slowly adding +1s to lv of mobs. we will see how that goes.

The easiest way to cap defence is to go for Focused Accuracy from Energy Mastery Epic and slot it with a set of Gaussians, this plus the Steadfast Def/Res unique will cap defence to all positions.
You can then pick your other IO sets based on any additional benefits you require - recharge, regen etc.

I finished the build for my tank a few days ago and have been wondering what other players would think of the defense numbers I was able to come up with.
The tank is still only 47, so I have still can accumulate more defense via the rest of my enhancements. I only have normal IO sets in my build. Purple sets are too expensive and I dont play the high end game enough anymore to be patient enough for em to drop. And pvp IOs are out of the question.
With that said, I would like peoples' opinions on these defense numbers for my shield defense tank.
Ranged 38.82%
Melee 43.19%
AoE 46.63%
S/L is 11%
Fire/cold is 10%
Energy/NE is 8%
I also was able to have regen of 1.42%/sec
So what do yall think? Good numbers?
