It still does knockback. Only pick it up for RP or thematic reasons.
It serves some utility I guess, but there are much better options out there.
its basically the same thing as hand clap from super strength, just with different FX
and dang synapse, statesman, and all the other hero rank NPCs that can do dmg with handclap/thunderclap
