Powersets: Rename Trick Arrow to Trick Shot
The basic problem with this is that it would require making new animations for every single power in the set. From an animations point of view this is equivilent to making two new powersets. In other words, it's a hell of a lot of work for BaB's team for very little payback. With the same amount of effort they could instead do animations for two new powersets.
I am fine with making a gun version of the arrow set

And then there's the problem that the way activation sequences work, you can only inherit the weapon that is ALREADY drawn, not just the weapon you picked.
If we're talking about how Munitions inherits the Assault Rifle weapon, that's because they use the same weapon definition, but Munitions still only use the Rifle class of weapon.

BaB has said he believed it's possible, through power customization, to give non-weapon sets a weapon. It therefor seems reasonable to think that it's possible for the alternate animations to call a different weapon than the primary animation.
One problem would be that BaB also said weapon customization with alt-weapon animation mentioned above was unlikely. Perhaps a solution would be to set up trick shot to use a default weapon which can be overridden by the weapon picked for its paired set (I'm not entirely sure but this may be how mace mastery for banes works) .
Trick Arrow is an interesting powerset. On one hand, it really captures that Green Arrow feeling, and it goes great with Archery.
But with the advent of Dual Pistols, why should we just limit Trick Arrow to Archery? None of the powers themselves explicitly require an arrow to work. In a world of supertechnology, you can easily make special cartridges for your ranged weapon of choice with the same effect. So here's my suggestion... Replace Trick Arrow with a functionally identical set called Trick Shot, which is compatible with all "ranged weapon" sets, and bases it's animations off of the weapon you select for it. (You can use different weapons if you need to thematically, of course). The powers will work the same, and the Bow wielding heroes and villains will be untouched, but the thematic possibilities will increase. ...Assuming this is possible, of course... |
