Different Client update versions

So, while trying to download test today, I randomly was pointed to the fact that it might be slow due to the server being overwhelmed by multiple people downloading it.
Now I'm not even sure this suggestion is possible, but would it be practical if there was a way to basically have the client downloaded work in two different ways, one being standard and the other working like a bit torrent (which if I understand, works better if there are more people downloading) for major updates to reduce server strain.

Again, just a weird thought that probably won't work.

Trying to make the updater behave like a torrent would be a lot of work and would piss off a lot of people due to potential security holes.

Having a second distribution channel hosted through torrents is more practical but it would require a larger download since the devs would need to include an installer for the patch with the download.

During heavy load the extra setup size would be outstripped by the speed difference.

A lot of campuses and such also block anything Torrent-like on their internet, which I know was a big problem for my roommate's MMO of choice when my college started it.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Which is why that MMO allows for different download methodologies. When I played it, I just followed the link for the direct download of the patches (which was hosted externally) rather than using the throttled torrent.
