Concerning the absence of speech bubbles for mastermind pets, when /petsay is used.

Hello.

I'm looking to determine, once and for all, whether the mastermind /petsay speech bubbles are permanently gone or whether they were a minor and unintended side effect of the patch that partially disabled the use of < and > in macros (as mentioned HERE) and will be returned at a later date.

For those of you who are not aware of the issue; while the /petsay command will still display what you've told the pet to say in the Pet channel, a speech bubble will not appear as it did earlier. Default pet responses to commands still appear in speech bubbles however.

I've made numerous attempts to locate information and/or a developer post with even a passing mention of the subject but have had no success.

I know it's a bit of a non-issue but is anyone able to assist anyway? Possibly a link to the appropriate patch notes or something similar?

Section of ParagonWiki's Known Issues list (this list is not endorsed by the devs/NCsoft). Nothing really has been said for many months on it, since they turned off < and >.

I should've linked there as well. I've seen that already.

Other threads concerning the matter:

There was another thread where a person had posted a workaround where they could have their pets speak in the NPC channel and have the speech bubbles appear, albeit a second or two after the original command is given. Though I have forgotten where that was.

I don't feel like looking for the thread or post, but if you search my name, you might find it.

A couple examples..

Macro:
/macro 123 petsaypow "Assault Bot" Pet Chat<em>NPC Line 1<em>NPC Line 2<em>NPC Line 3

Result:
[Pet](Character_Name)Pet_Name: Pet Chat
[NPC] Assault Bot: NPC Line 1
[NPC] Assault Bot: NPC Line 2
[NPC] Assault Bot: NPC Line 3

The [Pet] chat does not have bubbles, but the [NPC] chat does. There is approximately 1 second delay between each line.

Macro:
/macro ABC petsaypow "Assault Bot" hmm..<em>Is it against the rules to talk in NPC chat?<em>Is it?<em>Well.. I guess I'll try it anyway.

Result:
[Pet](Character_Name)Pet_Name: hmm.
[NPC] Assault Bot: Is it against the rules to talk in NPC chat?
[NPC] Assault Bot: Is it?
[NPC] Assault Bot: Well.. I guess I'll try it anyway.

That's the one I remember, Master-Blade.

But we don't want a kludgey workaround with delay!

What's happened to the pet speech bubbles?
Does anyone know for certain and has a link to the relevant patch notes or dev post?

Hmm, I wondered that too. I kinda forgot about it until now, but I agree. It was fun to use, and I for one would like it back.

Personally, I like the delay, cause you can use it to create mini conversations between pets when used the right way. lol

As for the bubbles themselves.. I am not really a big fan to begin with. I don't even like the player ones most of the time, and the only time I ever actually look at chat bubbles in general is when an NPC talks in a mission and I can look around to see which direction they are in.. and even then I'm still not reading it. haha

Well that's the thing. I'm not really sure. The fact is, the petsay and <> commands DO still work (but not always in binds), and petsay itself doesn't even require those symbols unless you are doing emotes or trickery like mine.. and even when a Pet does speak in the Pet channel, the chat bubbles are still gone.. so I don't think it really has anything to do with the <> commands themselves. It might have been some kind of other stealth nerf due to player complaints? Can't be sure. I've looked before and never really saw any OFFICIAL word on it either. Sorry.

Ah, I see. Sorry about that Aggelakis. Once I saw the link to the wiki my brain just skipped over the rest.

So in conclusion; pet speech bubbles are gone, (except for default responses to commands and clever NPC channel useage.) and there's no evidence that they're even aware?

Yes, I know it's a very minor issue. I'd at least like to find out the status even if it is a simple: "Not important. We'll take a look if we find ourselves with a few days spare."

Since the issue is so old, your best bet is PMing a redname directly and ask them. They've got their heads buried in GR at the moment, but I'm sure they still read their messages occasionally.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Yeah, but if you use this, they stop attacking.

That's not true at all. The pets don't actually become NPCs, the chat is just bugged to show up as NPC and you can still control them just as you always have.

But you, THE USER, have the option to turn bubbles off. It's an option for you only.

I would like to see mine, and it wouldn't impede you.

Never said it would. I'm simply giving you a way to see them if you want to.
