Fire/Dark Build Critique Please

Hey all..just rolled a fire/dark... was wondering if anyone could take a look at this and tell me where it sucks and why. (I'm not good at builds at all!!!)

Was trying to get as much defense as possible... I will admit I have a problem trying to build for defense while still making sure the toon is playable. >.> I hate manuevers, but..it's like 3% sooo.. I don't really HAVE to be soft cap...I just really want as much defense as possible while still having some resis too. I may get rid of Scorch, not sure yet.. anyway. Open to suggestions!

I DID have 500mil to work with (if this is the toon I decide to put all my inf into and not my fire/shields...) but I bought a LotG +Rech (it's in this build though!) :P

Thanks guys! <3

P.S. Why do I not see that many /darks running around? I am LOVING this! I've wanted to make a darkie for so long now, but have been so obsessed with making fotm's (fire/sr, db/sr, fire/sd, etc.) ....because I figured they are better end-game, so I'd probably love them..WRONG! They bore me. I am curious for those who are experienced (Desmodos...) how /dark fares up against, say, Rularuu. just curious. Thanks again, guys. <3

I see why you're going for defense sets, but you're also going to hurt for endurance from this. For example, death shroud alone consumes 0.44 eps, which will really add up over time, after you start adding all the other toggles.

Performance Shifter is preferable over Adrenal Adjustment in Physical Perfection (proc, end mod, and end/whatever)

You actually get more regen by slotting a numina heal IO over the +regen proc, because you're also getting the 12% regen bonus from the set.

Dark Regeneration benefits from a mix of both accurate heal sets, especially the theft of essence proc (chance of 10 endurance back per minion hit)

Fire/Cold damage isn't incredibly common, so you might be happier with the +hp from Titanium than the Aegis set. There's also reactive armor if you want to 4 slot it for some more defense, though the numbers would be rather paltry.

That's just a few things I see with a glance. I'm sure someone else will be able to offer better observations.

I agree with you on most of that but rather than the regen bonus from Numina I'd go for the extra Miracle, slightly less regen but gives more recovery bonus which he'll need with that build. Still looking over it to change a few things.

This is my take on the build. I honestly went all out on trying to re-coup your endurance the best I could. I sacrificed a bit of defense but I brought your end drain down a bit and beefed up your end per second the best I could without taking to much from your original premise. I hope you can use this or at least work off this.

ok, I changed a couple of things... I was actually able to get melee soft cap :O

I took the end red out of maneuvers and put that slot in phys perf so I could put 4 perf shift's .. along w/ the perf shift +end proc (can I have 2 per build or just one??) either way, it ends up being pretty much the same thing... 3.86rec 1.82use instead of 3.77rec 1.74use, but I will put the end red back if you think that is better??

I wish I didn't have to use maneuvers period! grrrr. anyway, here it is

I replaced your acc io in dark regen with a nucleolus?

Started off trying to minimal tweak Horusaurus' tweak to your build ... ended up a fairly different beast I'm thinking. But more options and changes to think about.

Biggest changes were to 6 slot Dark Regen and Physical Performance and drop what was left of BU (admittedly I didn't like doing that and if I started from scratch it would almost certainly get back in there). It's not quite as much Melee Defense (37% vs 44%), but I honestly think you sacrificed too much getting there. While certainly a capped defense is very sweet you have zero DDR (Defense Debuff Resistance) so the first Council burst (a ranged attack to boot), Cimeroran sword (their Pilums are also ranged and debuff I want to say), Arachnos Tarantulas (again vs ranged) or other debuffer that lands a blow and you'll be rapidly loosing all that defense. Hence more slotting in Dark Regen to improve its overall performance. That's also partly why I 4 slotted the 3 LotG sets in the build to improved your global accuracy making everything thing hit more reliably against higher cons including your Dark Regen. Next is where most of the loss of +defense happens, swapped the Titanium Coatings for the Impervium Armor and 4 slotted to get those slots back I needed for DR and PP. The Imperviums have a nice large +max end as well as +recovery which combined make life much easier for your blue bar (I suspect they are also pricier and harder to come by though I haven't check lately).

Someone with more number crunching skill than I could also probably tell you the pros and cons of 3 slotting Miracles in PP vs 2 Miracles and the Numina that I have there now. And likewise in PP vs Health for the various combinations of the Heal sets/uniques.

You're actually almost better off going for typed defense on a Fire/Dark. You CAN softcap a Dark Armor to all 3 positions.....but you need one of the sword sets to do it (Broadsword or Katana)

There's a tank build that softcaps S/L/E/N defense while still being playable. It will be harder to pull that off with a scrapper, but should be doable. I'll check out your build when I get home today (I'm at work, so no Mid's), and see what I can do with it.

you know what...that actually looks like a pretty good build! I am a little nervous about playing a non-soft capped toon since that is what I've gotten myself used to playing, BUT...to me, /sr was always lacking (of course) in the resistance department, so...I'm hoping I will be able to enjoy this. It's interesting to know what kind of build I'll be able to have! ty!!!! <3

Okay, here's what I came up with.

I opted for typed defense rather than positional, like I suggested in my earlier post.

I did this for one major reason: Dark Armor has ZERO defense debuff resistance.

The most common defense debuff in the game by FAR is machine gun fire, which is tagged ranged/lethal. Even if they are right in your face firing a machine gun it still applies it against those two defenses. Your softcap to melee will disappear in a hurry if you're being shot at by multiple machine gunners (which happens a LOT, Council anyone?) Being softcapped to smashing and lethal will cover 60% or so of the melee attacks in the game and any ranged lethal attacks, which your melee defense is useless against.

Also, the rest of the typed defenses are at least 30%. So that should make a noticable difference. There were some sacrifices made, but it should still be playable while running all toggles.

The biggest downside is a slight lack of accuracy in the attacks themselves, but set bonuses and the Kismet +Acc I put in Combat Jumping should even that out for the most part. I pulled some slots from Physical Perfection, but I added some recovery bonuses here and there to help make up for that, your end consumed versus recovered didn't change that much. Also added a couple max endurance bonuses, which will help with recovery by giving it a larger number to base off of. With the way I slotted Dark Regeneration you will heal almost half your HP from one target (an 812 point heal IIRC), 2 targets will fill your HP bar from the red to full.

I also added Focused Accuracy for another set of Rectified Reticle, but I don't recommend running it, as it has no end reduction in it. If you're okay with being just under the softcap to smashing and lethal you can swap it back out for Conserve Power.

The most expensive things in this build will be the Kinetic Combats, the uniques you already had in there, and the Zephyr KB Protections (the build has 8 points of it btw)

Yes, you can have multiples of the +end proc. If you make a Willpower or Regen toon, you could slot three of 'em!

You have no idea how awesome that build is! Thank you so much for taking the time to do it for me... I was thinking ALL DAY about what you said about katana/dark, and have been torn between fire, katana, db, or dark! I know I want a dark toon .. it's just SO hard for me to fathom how it'll play end-game being that I'm so used to /sr! grr.. anyway, I have been playing around with builds all day... probably going to make some toons and see what I like.. I figured I'd end up going with fire though since it's what I always seem to come back to. 8-)

Was every other attack DA? Should be something like DA->Soaring->DA->Golden rinse and repeat while tossing in a lotus drop when you feel like it.

p.s. I am sort of curious about katana..never really thought I liked it before, but idk.. at least it would be different. I wish dark melee had more than 3 "attacks" because I love it and wish I could just make a dark/dark. I once made a dark/regen and leveled it to 24 during double xp weekend (years ago) and then deleted it because it started boring me! blah. anyway. going to rwz to play a little bit..
