Any idea why my game is slow?

Hello... me again...

After spending a while trying to salvage together a computer that works decently, I find that City of Heroes still lags and chops when I run it above Performance mode. Now, I know that my computer isn't exactly running three versions of Crysis at the same time, but this doesn't seem right.

I've minimized my visual "perks" on my computer, I use Game Booster and turn off/down everything unnecessary, and I'm well above system requirements.

Enclosed is a DX Diag of my computer. Any and all advice would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

DXDiag does nothing for us. We want CoHHelper and HiJackThis logs.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Searching for CoHHelper. I'll get it back to you once I find and execute it.

And here's Hijack This. If you look closely, you can find Waldo, my legal name, and what I do while I'm surfing the forums!

(Yes, it says a lot of processes are running. How would I stop these from starting at start up? Also, Game Booster deals with these... right? Right!?)

Only if they are in the list of 24 non-critical processes that Game Booster lets you turn off.

You seem to have a lot of instances of Chrome running. Stop browsing so much while you are trying to play, it's not helping.

Turn off the Media Booster, that's a drag on network resources that you don't need while you are gaming.

Turn off all of your extraneous chat programs like AIM, Skype, etc. Again, that's a drag on network resources that you don't need while you are gaming.

All of those O4 listings are items loading at startup. Most don't need to run at startup. They only need to run when you specifically need them. You can turn those off by going to Start and typing in msconfig in the Search box. Click on msconfig in the list, click on the Startup tab and then uncheck the unneeded items. I'd recommend getting rid of the Adobe Reader entry, the Quicktime Task entry, the iTunesHelper entry, the Media Booster entry, and the Google Updater entry. If it were me, I'd also kill the Steam entry and set Skype and Messenger NOT to run at Startup. In short, try to keep as little as possible running while you are gaming. You may even want to turn off your AVG while you are gaming. You can wait until after the game launches so that it is running while updates come in (if there are any) but otherwise it isn't needed when gaming unless you are doing other things online (which I've already indicated is not good for gaming). When you can upgrade to a better system, sure, you might be able to run all those things in the background, but for now let's just leave them off. Or just use your phone for you FB, Twitter and other needs.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

But... but I use my Twitter! It's like a sweet teat of Hera and I suckle at as much wisdom as the flowing milk of 140 characters can possibly contain...

... Thanks for all the tips! I'll try it out right now and see if it helps my harrowing heroing experience. ^_^

Just taking a break from Red-Sidin' it up on just a notch above Performance to tell you that I deeply appreciate your help. I'm enjoying the game's graphics much more, thanks to you.

(And I suspected that my Start Up programs may have been a difference, but I had no idea they were the difference!)

Glad to have been of some assistance.
