Greetings and salutations, folks! Mace Ironhead here. I am happy to announce that, after playing CoH since a month after launch, I *finally* have not one, but TWO level 50 heroes!

Please, no applause, just throw money. ^_^

Since I finally unlocked the Kheldians, I thought I'd try them out. It seemed to be far too much number-crunching for my poor brain to try and mix and match forms, so I decided to go with a hoverblaster-style human-form Peacebringer. Managed to get ranged def up to 43.6%, but I'm at a loss as to how to hit the cap with the dearth of slots that Kheldians seem to suffer from. I've also been perusing the Kheldian boards here, and it seems that it's a good idea to slot up both self-heals and try to keep them perma. The sets available to those don't grant any ranged def bonuses, unfortunately, so they're just currently slotted with 1 rech IO each. If you've got any suggestions on slotting, IOs, or power choices, please let me know! Anyone who can improve the build will get a cookie!

Here's the build so far. Looks good in Mids, but, since Quasarflame's only level 7 right now, we'll have to see how it plays as it goes ... I tried to make it a leveling build, and kept set IOs at around level 40 to retain set bonuses while exemplaring. I'm also toying with the idea of swapping Dawn Strike/Photon Seekers/Light Form with Kick/Tough/Weave, so as to get the defense and resist bonuses earlier on.

It's not going to be easy to improve on the Ranged Defense in this build and you've already managed to get a very respectable amount (with significant sacrifices to do so). I don't really have anything to add on that score, as the combination of the Resistance from your shields and this caliber of Defense should serve you well. You've overslotted some powers, but you've done so in order to get +Ranged Def bonuses, so I've tried not to touch those since doing away with those would run counter to the goal.

The key element that's underslotted here is the heals - Essence Boost is a Dull Pain clone and really ought to be slotted accordingly. Your survivability is going to be much less, especially when leveling up/exemplared and without your full arsenal to draw upon. The question, then, is where to find the slots to shore up Essence Boost and Reform Essence?

Personally, I'd drop the Status Resistance. I'm not a huge fan of mez resistance in IOs generally, since even if you manage to get 100% resistance you only cut the duration of the effect in half. While this can be worthwhile and I can see the allure of combining Defense to avoid status effects with Mez Resistance to minimize those that land, I do not think it outweighs the importance of slotting your critical heal powers in this build. Therefore, I'd recommend dropping the Impervious Skin:Status Resist slot from Shining Shield, Thermal Shield, Quantum Shield, Tough, and Light Form. That gives you five slots right there that can be reallocated to Essence Boost and Reform Essence.

Like most well-thought out Kheldian builds, this build is tight, and that's all I can see that doesn't detract from your primary purpose of building Ranged Defense. I'd rather have well-slotted self-heals than have the Mez Resistance, but YMMV.

I love your thread title!

If you're looking to save slots, get rid of the Positron's sets and switch them for four Dam/*IOs frankenslotted.

eg 2* Acc/Dam, 1*Dam/End, 1*Dam/Rech

You have enough Acc bonus from Thunderstrikes, you can keep the Recovery bonus, so all you lose is the Recharge Bonus. Its nice, but not essential to your build aims here.

Then pop these two into Essence Boost.

Health doesn't need 3 slots. You have 15% recovery in set bonuses on top of Stamina, you dont really need that Numina Unique. Add two more to Essence Boost for 5 total, you can evene recoup some Recharge bonus back with Doctored Wounds now.

I'd agree with Justaris, drop the 3 mez resist special IOs.

Add add those 3 slots to Reform Essence. Frankenslot with 4 Heal/Rech's, or pull another slot from somewhere and go for more Doctored Wounds. Maybe just 2 slot Stamina with level 50 IOs?

Can combat Jumping and Combat Flight be active at the same time? Because your mids build has them both on at once, I think your real ranged defence is 41.7%.

How to get that up to 45%:

Swap the -KB IO to a BoTZ-KB IO. Expensive but does save you a slot.
Drop all 5 Impervious Skin status resistance IO's.
Drop the Aegis Status resistance too.

Use those slots to put a full Numina set into either Essence Boost or Reform Essence and job done.

Then use the remaining slots to get some slots into the other heal.

Edit: There are a few more changes I would make (I think) but they would add cost so I avoided things like LoTG's. The BoTZ -KB is the only additional big cost in this build really.

PrincessDarkStar: I'm not sure whether or not Combat Flight and Combat Jumping can be used simultaneously, as Quasarflame is only level 7 at the moment. I'll test it once I get him up to level 10. (As a matter of fact, I'll start working on that as soon as I'm done with this post!) However, since HOVER and Combat Jumping can be used at the same time, I am assuming that the combo will function in a similar manner.

After reading the responses here (my thanks to everyone who commented! You all get cookies! ^_^), I started messing around with the build in Mids. Originally, I ignored the melee attacks altogether, which I now realize was rather silly of me. With the addition of Incandescent Strike and Solar Flare as IO mules (and also as tools to use in case any mobs get too close) and a few IO/slot/power placement changes to the build, I managed to get ranged def OVER the soft cap (up to 46.1%) AND five-slot both self-heals with Doctored Wounds. A bit more global recharge, another small damage buff, and added slots for rech IOs in Conserve Power and Hasten make this new build even tastier, IMHO. I lose Light Form, but that was really only there as an "Oh CRAP" button, in any case.

Here's the new build. This one isn't really a leveling build, as I was just swapping things around. I'll redo the slotting for leveling later on.

One other possibility would be to keep Light Form, instead of taking Solar Flare, and use the same 3 slots for 3 pieces of Reactive Armor. That would return the "Oh CRAP" button to the build, bring all resists while in Light Form up to the 85% cap (except toxic [66.2%] and Psi [0%, boo hiss]) and drop ranged def to 45.1% - still just over the cap!

ANOTHER possibility would be to swap out either Incandescent Strike or Solar Flare for Quantum Flight, thereby again returning the "Oh CRAP" button to the build (although I'm not sure if mez effects can still affect you while you're intangible ... ?) Doing this would lower ranged def to 44.8% (if IS was swapped out) or 44.5% (if SF was swapped out), AND it would free up another slot or two, depending on which power was exchanged for QF. It would also make the "Oh CRAP" button crashless ... hmmm ...

OK, I'm overthinking this. All these changes are endgame material, anyway. If anyone has any further comments/improvements/rants/recipes involving bacon, please feel free to add them! I still have more cookies for you! (They're candied bacon/chocolate chip cookies, by the way. Yes, it's a real recipe, and they are made of pure WIN.) ^_^

Combat Jumping and Hover can be on at the same time, so its pretty likely that CJ and Combat Flight can be too.
