Interesting.
I hooked up a PC instead of my laptop, and I was able to run the game.

CoH may be trying to run at the wrong resolution. Get TweakCoH and set your resolution to something your TV supports. You'll have to read your TV's manual to find that out, but it should support 1280x720 or 1920x1080 at 60Hz.

You could also try setting it to Windowed mode.

Found that message on my work PC's screen this morning - no games software installed or anything else that plays around with screen resolutions for that matter.
Hit the monitor power button a couple of times and it came back to life - could be that the monitor has different input options and you just need to toggle through them.

I just tried to hook my laptop up to my Widescreen LCD TV to play COH. (Mainly wanted to see how the game looked on it as I am thinking of buying a Game-only PC I was going to hook up to the TV).
The TV display works fine with the laptop, but when I try to run COH I get a message "Format not supported."
Last year, I was able to run COH on an old PC I had hooked up to the TV (didn't play because the PC was old and could not really play with today's version) and it was able to boot the game up.
Now it won't display anything from the laptop at all while I'm running coh there. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
