Which tank for me and why? (arena + zone)

I am not really certain which primary I want to go with (decided on SS for rage probably, but not 100% sold on that either so would take suggestions on that as well) because a few seem like they could be pretty reasonable in both.

Elec - Reasonable resists including psi, drain/tp res, a heal now, but no KB protection to really speak of imo

Fire - decent resists esp fire, bu, slow res, but a heal that isn't as great in zones now b/c of HD

Ice - slow/kb res, perception, a great heal / hp boost, and hibernate (could go leadership instead of phase if I wanted or even something else), but not terribly survivable outside of being a bag of hp

Invuln - very solid s/l/psi resists, kb prot, great heal, but no percep and needs a lot of powers

WP - QR (could go staminaless OR have plenty of end), worse res than invuln, but not bad at all to s/l/psi, bag of HP even with SOs, and good regen too

And I assume for a patron my choices are fossilize for damage, (block of ice for mez spike, or no?), FA + perfection for more recovery/percep, or possible even fire for MA, or no to that?

Thanks

the heal from fire does not get hit by heal decay at all because you cannot recast it that fast.. whereas willpower's awesome regen values become a lot less than awesome as they are hit heavily by DR.

my willpower tank has barely any more regen per second than my fire tank thanks to the magic of DR (when RTTC is actually on, which is rare thanks to detoggling).. then my fire tank is regenerating another 80 hit points a second with healing flames.

not to say willpower is bad, but as far as health returned per second fire will probably always win out over the other's you have listed.

Fire. Then invul or elec if you want to be a snowflake.

I would go Invuln....it has a dull pain. Maybe you can convince the colds going to KB to pick up frostworks then fire would be awesome

Really think that DP would do me better than a faster recharging heal and more damage? (For a while this toon will be just SOs while I work on my other one's IOs)

Invuln is only good with a very high investment. With SO's fire is way better.

You can get around 2800 hp pretty easy on a fire tank. Assuming buffers behind both an invul and a fire the difference would be negligible. Then throw in that the fire armor has superior damage and you have why the scale tips in its favor.

And max, stop talking like anyone but you uses sos. You sick freak.

Actually I use SOs too :P

Being bad by choice is not as cool as you and max think

Seriously though, you can io up a ss fire pretty damned cheap. AS you can pretty much any toon. You just aren't going to have a build that is the best of the best, but will still add a lot to your toon.

I think using SOs is a good idea until you get the feel for your character and how it plays.

This is like saying i want to play in the NFL...but i don't want to use football pads. I really want to know the reason why you use SO's, if it's to prove a point....no body really cares. Gimping yourself is not as cool as you think it is. And don't say it's about the money. Because you can get some really really cheap sets that are quite effective. What do you do with the pvp drops you get.....sell them and go buy some 53 SO's lol.

I realize how important sets are... but as the devil's advocate, how do you expect to get any pvp drops if you don't have any enhancements to start with?

I don't get PvP IOs first of all :P

And second of all on a lot of my characters I don't have the respecs to first slot cheap sets then change everything around, not to mention SOs are a lot easier to just buy and go.

And comeon, it's not the car it's the driver right? (lost that darn picture)

Yeah but at least put a decent stereo in your car. And if you buy cheap enough ios you just overwrite them as they come in. Who the hell wants to respec just to keep a set of titanium coating.

Here are the reasons.

1. Mostly it is about money. I play over 10 toons regularly. Sure, to IO one won't take that much. But to IO 15 will.

2. I play this game like 3-4 hours a WEEK. When I play, I prefer to actually PvP. Not to roleplay going shopping in a supermarket.

3. I don't really care. All I do is PvP in zones, and SO's work fine in most cases. When I'm clearly outmatched by someone's build, I can just leave. This game is an utter joke from a competitive standpoint, so I really don't care if some baddo in a zone thinks he's better than me.

4. In all honesty, I really hate this game, and 90% of the time it's not even fun to play anymore. So I don't want to waste my time pimping out a bunch of toons.....just to cancel my account a month later.

A while ago I did spend some time to IO my main toon, a blaster. Just cheap sets. But it's totally not my thing. I really can't stand that part of MMO's, and I thought the game was a lot better when everybody had the same SO's, and fights actually came down to pure skill.

Summary: No it's not to prove any point. It's because I'm lazy and don't give a **** about this joke of a dying game. I never once told anybody they should use SO's. But I do mention that I use them when I give advice, because advice given from SO experience can be very different from being purpled out.
