-Renderthread 1?

Hello! I've been reading some posts about technical information for CoH's Graphics and whatnot, specifically information about it's incompatibility issues with ATi Graphics cards, and the mention of the -renderthread 1 command in the Launcher has popped up on more than one occasion.

My question is...what does that argument actually do? Dumb it down if necessary, I want to understand lol.

These days , nothing as the client should auto-detect what it should be set to. The -renderthread days are gone.

Ok, so chances are you've got a dual core processor in your computer right now, which for all intents and purposes means you've got two CPUs. Without renderthread enabled, City of Heroes is programmed to only make use of one of the two cores, limiting it's performance. With renderthread, the graphics engine is split out from the main program and runs in it's own "thread" on a dedicated core. This increases game performance as now you've got two CPUs crunching information for the game at full speed rather than everything competing for the same resources on a single CPU.

But as I said before, CoH now auto-detects if you have a dual core processor and you don't need to mess with that option anymore.
