Haiti
Yeah that really sucks hard, but I really don't think this is the place for that... perhaps request a move to "Comic Culture" since it's the "off-topic" board?
Good perspective, S_T.
My church has had a significant mission and relief effort to Haiti for years. In fact, a support team just flew back hours before the quake hit. We've not heard from the permanent director who remained down there. No one's panicked yet, since we all know how bad communications can be in such a disaster. Assuming she's made it through, we'll be utilizing her and her staff to coordinate our relief efforts.
The problems seem to be far more dramatic in the south part of the island. My sister-in-law has a sibling with family living on the northern arm of the island and she was able to call. Remarkable, considering how difficult living conditions are around there under normal circumstances. They were rattled, but the damage up that way was minimal in comparison.
There's a lot of suffering that goes on in the world every day and I'm pretty lucky to live in a place where we really don't want for much of anything. I don't spend a lot of time doing charitable type things and I guess I really don't think about it that much for the most part.
But people estimate that anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000 people died today.
We spend $15 a month to play a game. I think we spend that much at least to help these people.
All I guess I'm saying is there are a lot of emergency organizations and food agencies and medical agencies that will be working in Haiti in the near future. I guess try to find one and give what you can.
These people need our help.
