Graduating SG's?

I was reading the 'Kitty Pryde' thread in the comic book area of the forums, and it got me to thinking. Has anyone ever tried a graduating SG format akin to the X-Men setup? For those of you that don't know, the X-Men used to have a "freshman class kind of thing set up. It used to go: New Mutants->X-Men. But with the addition of X-Force and X-Factor, it can go something like this:

X-Men
l
X-Factor - X-Force
l
New Mutants/Generation X

The reason I ask is, this seems like a really cool idea, but looks like a buttload of work to do. I was just wondering.

Angry Angels had an Academy for levels 20 below, then Angels for everyone else, then Devas for level 50's if I remember correctly. I use 'had' only because I am not sure if this is still the case.

That what ya mean? If so, it seemed to work really well.

Yeah, something like that. Maybe not tied to level exclusivly, but experience. But then again, I'm sure you could RP the level advancement as battle experience/maturity.

Maybe something more like the way baseball works? Single-A teams, Double-AA, Triple-A, then the Majors?

Work.. yes and no.

Due to previous roster restrictions (75 versus 150), many older SG's had seperate homes for new recruits and alts (Our chapters are: Angry Angels Academy & Jaded Angels Lyceum) and active or retired level 50's. Thought, I still see newer groups running multiple units for various reasons - from population growth to providing immersive RP environments (plural).

In my experience, it had/has its pro's and cons.

Pro:

- providing space if your main chapter is full or near full
- provides some SG's a place to oversee members new to their organization
- provide*d* SG-mates an opportunity to better organize level-specific play dates (prior to SSK)
- provides more than one SG base so that you can offer more roleplay themed environments/meeting places

Con:

- splits prestige
- splits visual check of who is online on the sister chapters
- may delay moves to the main base if a member plays unusual hours
- causes members to have to reset their prestige/tenure counter if moving between chapters

Grae has a really strong group of about.. 11? chapters.. including an Academy and 50's. May want to ask him.

The Supreme Society has a built in "junior division" for younger villains known as the Teen Tyrants. It's meant to be pretty close to what your talking about, but kids these days and authority, y'know? Started it as a separate VG, but that didn't work out so well and they were folded into the SS.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

good luck D.B.B.

We had a setup that was supposed to work in a similar way, on another server. It didn't. In my experience it very seldom does.

The Justice Girls Also have an Academy and the Main SG. The Academy is great for overflow but is also our Designated RP SG and also we made the base in the Academy Nearly Strictly all decoration. I think it works really well.
