Costume File field Scale (Height)
The default height for each model is different. Males and huge characters I think start at 6'4, while females start at about 5'8.
The scales also don't equate to inches added onto the character. I added 10 to the height of one character set on an athletic male (all sliders at 0) costume, and came to just over 7' (but not quite 7'1).
At the same time, a value of about -6.2 (the default value I originally had saved for that costume) dropped him to just under the 6' mark.
I think what you're effectively doing is adding or subtracting a percentage of the default height when you change the slider... if you do the math, it kind of makes sense:
6 feet 4 in. = 76 in.
76 in. * 110% = 83.6 in. = 6 ft 11.6 in., which is just shy of 7 ft.
The height chart in the background is a little off due to perspective, so it's very likely that what LOOKS like just over 7 feet against the chart is actually just under the mark.
Likewise...
76 in. * (100% - 6.2%) = 71.288 in. = 5 ft 11.288 in., or just under 6 feet.
Basically, if you want to set a concrete height for a character, you'll have to figure out what it's percentage of the default 76 inch height is for males, or the default 68 inch height for females.
The height scales go between a maximum of +25% (7'11 for males) and a minimum of -33% (about 4'3 for males).

The possible values seem to be percentages of the default height.
Female default is smaller than the Male/Huge default, so the resulting scale is probably from a different origin point, and wont equate to the same height.
You also have to consider that the actual height may differ depending on leg length as well.
Well, Hana Li did ponder upon this question some time back and came upon a formula. What follows is a copy/paste from our sg forums:
Technical details:
You see, Icon lets you save costumes now. And among the information saved, you have two very interesting numbers, that can be shown if you open those files in Notepad: "Scale" and "LegScale". Note that "LegScale" is supposed to be just under "Scale", but does not show up if the "LegScale" is 0.
The Formula:
Height = 163 + (Scale*1.7) + (((LegScale +0.1)*42)*(2+((Scale+27)/62)))
For those scared of the mathemathics in the last paranthesis, it totals from 0 to 15 centimetres, depending on length of legs and body length.
One foot is 30.5 centimetres
One inch is about 2.54 centimetres
(Also, Hana did express that the formula could need some simplifying, but none where made)

Very interesting and informative replies everyone. Thank you.
Now if only Going Rogue would update the character creator so you could just set the sliders to an exact height, that would be wonderful.
Any idea where this person got the numbers from that are in the formula? I was trying it out on a couple toons, and the results I'm getting are shorter than I know those toons are. For instance, I checked it with a villain that is as tall as you can possibly make a character, Huge type, should be at least 8' tall, but the formula result is 7' 2.54".

Male/Huge formula would probably have a higher value than 163 at the beginning. I'd theorize it's probably closer to 183.
Disclaimer:
I don't know anything about that formula, and haven't plugged anything into it, but my reasoning is this:
163cm is 5' 4.2", which is the roughly the default Female model size with Legs/Physique turned all the way down.
The Male model's default with Legs/Physique turned all the way down is 6' even, which is 183cm.
As it turns out, Huge looks like it's actually slightly taller, but nothing you'd notice in gameplay.
I'm going to try posting this here since once again contacting NC Soft Support directly has not yielded any answers. Here goes:
Does anyone know how a character's height translates to the value stored in the Costume File under scale. I know this is where it records the character's height. But the number is a decimal, like 3.475. How does this convert back to a normal height in feet and inches?
I thought I had read somewhere that the value is the number of inches above or below 6ft so that 6ft = 0. But upon inspecting some of the costume files, particularly for female characters, this doesn't seem to hold true. One female toon has a value over 5, and I know she isn't 6'5".
I, like many people around here, am a bit OCD and very anal about exact numbers. I would like a more precise method of setting a character's height instead of trying to eyeball 6' 3" and getting 6' 3.2678". If I knew how the Scale values worked, I could edit the costume file and load it back in at character creator or super tailor (yes, I have Super Science pack. It will load height values at tailor with it).
Anybody got any answers for me? Devs, are you out there?
