Hard Hitting secondary.
I'm very much new to tanking and still the game in general (just got my 6 month badge woot!) however I'm a huge fan of SS but I'm a "HULK SMASH!" kind of player so I'm kinda biased I guess... I'll even be taking hand clap at some point which most people seem to not like (from what I've read) but it's very much a Hulkish power and I like it!

Cadler 50 WP/SS tanker
Radubadu 46 Fire/Fire blaster
Hell Runner 35 Fire/Fire brute
Both are loud and smashy, with lots of screen shake. My recollection is that early on stone seemed more end intensive, but that could be due to any number of things.
The key difference is Rage: it gives a big damage and to-hit buff, but it has a crash that causes you to lose end and have lowered defenses temporarily. If you can live with the downside, it's a big upside.

Well, the - Def wont be an issue because when rage stacks there is no -def, also after lvl 26 an ice tank you can mitigate the end crash with energy absorbtion.

I have a 50 Ice/Stone and a 44 Ice/SS, and prefer the Ice/Stone.
Stone Melee and Super Strength both have two PBAoE powers, one a stun and one for damage. Fault beats Hand Clap because it just knocks 'em down so they stay within range of Chilling Embrace and Icicles. But Foot Stomp does more damage than Tremor, even without Rage.
Rage-boosted Icicles are a thing of beauty.
If you're very good at watching your blinking buff icons, you can Hibernate through the Rage crash... but you really have to make sure you have more than 25% Endurance, because getting toggle-dropped with -20% Def on top is a Really Bad Thing in the middle of a spawn.
I prefer the Ice/Stone for the sound and graphic effects - booms and bits of rock flying everywhere, and it's safe and steady with hold and stuns.
I play the Ice/SS when I want to go banzai wacko with high risk and high rewards.
Although it maybe a bit too similar to Axe for your tastes, I've got low level Ice/Mace that I'm enjoying quite a bit. Instead of Axe's kd/kb, Mace stuns. I believe it was also mentioned somewhere that Mace recently got a buff as well. (read the "baby tank question" thread) I'd say your choices should come down to either Stone, SS or Mace as they all come across as hard hitting secondaries.

I loved Axe alot actually, but the one thing I vowed not to ever make with an ice tank is a secondary with a weapon. The redraw after popping EA every 30 sec for +def and +end I'm not a fan of having to pull out a mace/axe/db (Cant think of another). Just gets frustrating.
I'd second the thought of Stone Melee... it really does hit with authority and it has significant mitigation in it's knockdowns (both hammers, Fault & Tremor) and the MAG 4 HOLD in Seismic Smash. With a bit of recharge you can actually keep an entire spawn on their butts with the Fault/Tremor combo... I typically jump into the mob, hit Tremor (since it doesn't need a target), find a likely boss & Seismic Smash, then as they start to stand up Fault to knock them down again, pound on the boss a bit until they start standing up then Tremor.

Hey everyone,
I've been a longtime tank player and love bruting also. I currently have 2 lvl 50 ice tanks Ice/Axe and Ice/DM and a couple other 50 tanks.... im conremplating making my first IO'd out Ice tank though, and am looking for somthing to pair up with Ice again because I love it so much. I was thinking SS would be great, but also juggling the idea of using Stone.... would anyone be able to give me any personal experiences that would sway me in either direction?
Side note, when I IO out a toon, i generally want to use them for everything, so even Master Runs STF's ect. I know some people say that Ice tanks cant do those things, but I have the badge's to prove it.
Cheers.
