What percentage enhancement to cap Flight speed from various sources?

We've discussed flight speed caps before, and as I understood it, the general conclusion was that two slots in flight (the base plus one) and the base slot in Swift, all filled with SOs or better, will cap flight speed.

Can anyone tell me what total percentage enhancement caps flight speed? If I knew that, I could pick a given level of, say, Blessing of the Zephyr set and/or additional increase from set bonuses and arrive at the same flight speed cap by accumulating an equivalent percentage of flight enhancement.

I have a scrapper with no swift and fly at 58mph out of 58.6. I have level 33 BotZs in fly, plus 10% fly speed bonuses from IOs.

I think with swift a single SO is plenty to cap fly. If you can use mids it should give up to date fly speed numbers that you can experiment with.

I don't have Mids, and the long history of people getting erroneous information from Mids and basing their thinking around it (Phalanx Fighting, for one recent well-known issue) would lead me not to use Mids for this sort of information even if I had it.

Base Fly Speed is 14.32 mph. Cap at 50 is 58.63. Therefore, to hit the cap at level 50 you need an extra 44.31 mph speed which is a 309.43% fly buff (in addition to base speed).

Unenhanced Fly at level 50 provides a FlySpeed buff of 215.5%. The buffs in Fly break down as so:

  • FlySpeed +1.365 for 0.75s If NOT on a PvP map
  • FlySpeed +0.8 for 0.75s If NOT on a PvP map [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
  • FlySpeed +1 for 0.75s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
  • FlySpeed -1.01 for 0.75s [Ignores Enhancements & Buffs]
So, unenhanced Fly gives you 215.5% FlySpeed Buff which means you still need (309.43 - 325.5 = ) 93.93% FlySpeed buff to hit the cap.

If you put a level 50 IO FlySpeed in Fly, it's FlySpeed buff (215.5%) is increased by 42.4% for only the enhanceable part of 1.365%. That brings Fly with a level 50 Fly IO to a total of 273.38%. And that gets you near the cap: 309.43 - 273.38 = 36.05% more FlySpeed buffs to hit the cap.

Except that Mids is 100% accurate in this regard. I've double checked Mids' info with City of Data and real in-game testing looking at real numbers.

Mids was off on Hover after Castle boosted the base speed of Hover, but that is now correct.

Eh? With few outliers, the only problems Mids' ever has are due to being out of date, since it's a third-party application. Considering the changes to flight are pretty old now, and Mids' is up to date, this assertion is silly.

Over the years there have been many forum posts where someone made a counterfactual assertion, and the argument escalated up until they insisted it was true "because it shows it right here in Mids." Numbers wrong, details of powers, that sort of thing.

Take the most recent one I know about, the example I gave, Phalanx Fighting -- for a long time Mids showed your defense from this power as if you had an ally standing next to you, and people would come to the forums with builds that were that much short of the soft-cap, and each one, one at a time, would have to be educated on how to set Mids to show the correct number.

Before that there were many cases where small details were off for a while before being fixed. Minor, it's true; but people talk about small details on the forums, so they're important.

Before the I16 update (when Stoney was added to the Mids' development team), Mids' became very out of date, it's true. There are occasionally errors, most often with unusual powers (for example, scaling effect based on number of targets), that's also true.

Mids' is still sufficiently reliable for casual discourse. It's only if you want to discuss things in beta or recently released, or when you debate at the level of mathematical detail of one of Arcanaville's guides, when Mids' is not enough.

But then, what are your alternatives? City of Data (currently out of date), and the in-game "Real Numbers" (which are frequently not the actual real numbers, but rather interpreted real numbers, introducing misleading information). The in-game Real Numbers information is also lacking when compared to both CoD and Mids', which gather data at a lower level.

The in-game numbers can also be wrong. IIRC, checking Flight Speed by right-clicking the Fly icon in your buff bar will not result in the same speed as checking your combat attributes, or by checking your enhanced real numbers and performing the speed calculations. And that's just an example relevant to the original post in this thread.
