If your hubby has the 9.12 Catalyst driver installed, he needs to install the hotfix driver located HERE. The WHQL 9.12 screwed up quite a few OpenGL games, CoH being among them. With the hotfix driver installed, his problem should be resolved.

Post a CoH Helper log and we'll see if there's any issues that pop out. Run it on his machine of course.
My husband hasn't played CoX in quite some time, and in that time we have upgraded both of our PCs.
We now have Windows 7 64bit. He currently has Intel I7-920 with a ATI 5870 gxf card. and I have Intel I5 with a Nvidia 260 card... I just loaded up the game on my PC with virtually no issues... other than how strange the game looks on my new 23 inch Acer screen >.< Hope they fix whatever that issue is soon. BUT, when my husband tries to load up the game it immediately starts blinking/flashing on and off like a strobe light. How to fix this??? |

We'll see....

If her husband has the 9.12 catalyst driver installed on his system, there should be no need for a CoH Helper log. The "strobe lighting" error is a known issue associated with that particular driver set and several OpenGL games. City of Heroes is specifically listed as one of those games affected. Uninstalling the 9.12 set and installing the 9.12 hotfix set WILL correct the problem.

Uh....I don't remember saying that he wasn't effected by it, nor that the HotFix wouldn't fix the issue. If he ISN'T using the 9.12 a CoH Helper log will absolutely help by showing us the hardware and it's driver version in one nice place. Besides....your post wasn't there when I started mine. Is that ok with you?

Define 'strange'. Perhaps a screenshot. Maybe we can fix this, too.

My old screen was 19 inches I think, still a wide screen.

This new screen is 23 inches and yanno the login screen where you pick the characters?
Well those bars/lines that say the characters name look abnormally long and thick. It just looks really "not right".
Its like for the loading in part to the game I somehow revert to a lower setting, but when I get into the game it goes to the right settings >.<
I will see about a screenshot. It just looks terribad :\

All the 2D screens and the 2D GUI does get stretched with a wide(r) screen. There's nothing to be done to correct that (though the GUI can be reshaped and scaled).

The 3D environment does not stretch, at least, it shouldn't. If your characters in the game are wide and short, then that's a problem that needs fixing. With a wide screen you do lose part of your vertical view (the top and bottom is cropped off). That can be resolved simply by pulling your camera back a bit.

Are you using the optimum resolution for your new monitor. I would guess that setting would be either 1650*1080 or 1920*1080. If not, then the pixels would stretch, making it look weird
