After 5 year absence, new scrapper advice? (Elec/WP)

Hey everyone.

Except for the past 2 months, the last time I played CoX is when it was just CoH and CoV was possibly in beta. The game has changed by leaps and bounds, and I'm well and truly hooked again. Love Oro, AE is a nice change of pace from time to time, the invention system is neat and I see a ton of potential in old and new characters. The issue I am having is the new slotting rules have me acting like a monkey trying to sleep with a football.

I leveled a Elec/WP scrapper, after seeing LR in action. I would have gone shield, but they seem to be everywhere and I wanted to try something a little different. He's fun, pretty survivable, and out-alphas the baddies in +0/x4 or x3 missions solo.

I got MIDS, and I can arm wrestle with it and eek out something resembling an ok SO build, but IO's change all the rules. I figured out frankenslotting with the forum's help, and my attacks are all set up that way.

So I'm turning to you fine people. Here is my tentative power selection plan, I'm hoping you all can help me set this up for some sort of consistent survivability, be it more health to max regen, or softcapped defenses. I'm not rich, though I am patient and have my 50 Ill/Rad who can still devour stuff in SO's to help get funds.

Alrighty.

I'm at work, so I can't mock up a build for you. But I can give you some general advice on what bonuses you want to look into for a WP toon.

First, you want typed defense bonuses. They come in pairs: Smash/Lethal, Fire/Cold, and Energy/N. Energy. Psionic has defense as well, but it is by itself.

The reason for this is Heightened Senses gives you typed defense and not positional, so you want to add to what you already have. I like Kinetic Combat for Smash/Lethal (but you will need Charged Brawl for another place to put them). Eradication gives you Energy/N. Energy Defense for 3 slots, I put 4 in there for the HP bonus (also important for WP) and cap it off with 2 Scirocco's Dervish for the regen bonus. Aegis will give you Fire/Cold defense for 3 slots.

In case you are unaware, Kinetic Combat is a melee damage set, Eradication is a PBAoE set, and Aegis is a resist damage set.

Max HP and regeneration should be your next focuses. I suggest 6 slotting High Pain Tolerance with 3 Numina's Convalescence and 3 Aegis. Mind Over Body can take Aegis as well, I suggest 3 and a 4th slot with a Steadfast Protection Resistance/Defense in it.

For your single target attacks, 4 Kinetic Combat will give you Smash/Lethal defense as already mentioned. I like to fill the last 2 slots with Mako's Bite (which I believe gives you a 12% regen bonus)

PBAoEs, of which you have 3, I would slot 4 Eradication and 2 Scirocco's in all 3. Eradication has almost no end reduction in the set (and the one piece that DOES have it is expensive on the market) so you want to look for Scirocco's that have some in them.

Luck of the Gambler is my defense set of choice if I'm not looking for positional defense (which you're not) Heightened Senses and Weave should both get 4.

I'm out of time on my break, so I'll finish up when I get home.

Claws, that looks pretty good. I was having issues trying to raise melee defense instead of S/L. Thanks for the effort you put into this.

You mentioned that this is what you would do with these powers, I'm not married to the power choices, given good reason to do otherwise. One thing I like about it is having plenty of end recovery, which I am not sure I would get without stamina. That plus health seems to be a no brainer for willpower since regen is quite important to the set.

Would you change power choices, and why? Again, thanks for anyone's effort on this. Learning a lot just looking this over.

Your power choices are fine, depending of course on whether you actually like and use those powers.

My only tip: If you get a Kismet +Acc IO (it's a defense set), it matches Focused Accuracy's base ToHit buff.

Well, I'd drop the travel power for one. I have the Martial Arts pack and I've found that Ninja Run is all the travel power a scrapper needs in PvE (PvP is a whole different animal)

After dropping the travel power I'd swap some stuff around and take Charged Brawl as well. You won't have much of a single target attack chain the way you're set up.

Maybe something like this:

Thanks again for the advice, I have the martial arts pack now, so I may very well do some sort of respec to arrange stuff differently. I like ninja run well enough, but love superjump and combat jumping gives that slight def boost where every bit counts.

Seems with a bit of investment can get mostly capped resistance to S/L, and 25 ish S/L defense, 35 ish def to energy attacks, with a smaller amount of resistance to those types. Right now, without tough/weave at level 40 I can slowly solo at -1 X 8, if it is mostly smash/lethal type enemies. I haven't hit the real enemy power spike yet, though.

Anyone else with experience with this powerset and has additional advice, I'd appreciate it.

Just my two cents, for what it is worth, the build he came up with is a pretty solid build. To take CJ and SJ, you would have to take two powers out of a solid build to fit those in. Compared to what has been given, the defense boost given by combat jumping really isn't worth it for what you might have to give up.

With tough/weave in the mix, you should be able to boost the numbers you can solo, and with the power selections given in the build he came up with, you should be able to continue on through missions like an energizer bunny with little downtime.

Hell, this build is fairly similar to what I came up with for a claws/WP scrapper, only difference, I took resurgence and one less attack. With the amount of regen and recovery the build has kicking, you wouldn't miss CJ imho.
