Hey everyone, I have an old elec/stone brute that I pulled out and dusted off. He still has SO's and i'm tryin to set him out with IO's. I'm trying to go for recharge but not sacrifice too much of my def or dmg. Check out my build and please critique it for me.....

Notice I put Call of the Sandman in Charged brawl and Havoc Punch...I put them in there to get more recharge out of it...too much???

Also how good is my granite slotted?? do I need to switch things up?? I want to primarily solo inside granit if at all possible. So thats why i'm leaning so heavily towards recharge.

Aslo i'll be mostly farming the TV farm and a few AE's so thats another thing this build is leaning towards......

Please let me know how I did!!!

Also I don't want any purples in the build at the moment, don't have enough money for them yet.. However, I will put them in eventually. Just lookin for a solid build to start off with.

You went for global recharge in ways that were more destructive overall than if you sacrificed a little. For example, Charged Brawl / Havok Punch you slotted a Sleep set. This gives you an enhancement value of 53% acc, 53% end reduc, and 26.5% rech as well as 6.25% global rech (12.5%, or 39% in each). By comparison, if you slotted lvl50 CI in there, you would have enhancement value of 68.9% acc, 97.5% dmg, 68.9% rech, and 42.4% end reduc, as well as 5% global rech (10% total, or 78.9% rech in each). You lost a total of 1.25% global rech, for far superior rech in both. Not only that, but the powers would deal significantly more damage than before.

Some of your other powers are slotted dubiously as well. Granite is woefully understlotted. It offers a base res of 37.5% to all (sans psi), so a single res SO would give 7.5% res to all, yet you use a slot in it for the 3% res PvP IO instead. It'ves not even giving half the res a regular SO would give in its place. It should be at least ED soft capped for res enhancement (~56% res), with a secondary focus in def and end reduc.

You placed a kb protection IO in Weave and Tough, and I'm not sure why, since you'll never be knocked back while Rooted is on. (It's possible to be knocked with just Granite, but it would be pretty rare.)

You have more slots / better enhancement value in Stone Skin, despite the fact Tough yields superior res and would benefit from the end reduc from the Impervious Skin set, compared to the complete absence in Tough.

I'd rip out all the slots you have devoted to psi resistance. You're only boosting yourself from 0% to 9%, you won't notice the difference.

Recharge is always nice on a stone.

Recharge is nice, but gaining 3% recharge compared to losing the damage modifiers from a set like Crushing impact is not worth it.

Granite is not slotted well. Go for hitting the ED cap on your defense and resists before you think about uniques. You've gimped yourself with that.

I'm a little puzzled over this build. It looks to be a mish-mash of a few things. For example the ultra-expensive PvP IO's here. A LOTG 7.5 in some powers, but not in rock armor?

Important: FF Chance for Rech does NOT work in Lightning Rod, because it gives the recharge bonus to the LR pseudopet, not you, though I have seen reports of a very rare random trigger of it in LR when it tries to hit you.

I would suggest that you slot swift more to deal with the run speed penalties in granite. Buildup is underslotted as well.

One of the things I do often is take a clean-slate approach to builds. Instead of tweaking builds, I rebuild it in Mid's from the ground up and compare with older builds to see how it turned out. I think you would benefit from planning a second build in mids and see how it turns out.

While my tone was rather critical, I think you would benefit from a fresh look at this combination again. You won't be very satisfied with this build's performance, and your survivability in granite will actually be poorer than other well-slotted brute powersets.

Ok I have revised my build a lil, i've moved some powes around to try to make better used of stuff. However, now I don't have enough slots to slot up my patron powers. Can u guys take a look and tell me what u think, maybe help me figure out what i can loose in order to slot my patrons.....

  • (48) Obliteration - Damage/Recharge: Level 50
  • (48) Obliteration - Accuracy/Damage/Recharge: Level 50
Missing something? Why only 4 slots in lightning rod, and why oh why would you not slot a 5th Oblit for the 5% recharge bonus?

Build up too...why would you slot 4 of 5 pieces of a recharge set and not slot the 5th piece? And then trying to get the 5% bonus from efficiency adapters and doctored wounds when you have CI and adjusted targetting and obliteration covering those bonuses if slotted for 5 pieces each... you would have 5x 5% recharge bonuses if you stuck with 5 slots of CIx2, 5 oblits x2, and your adjusted targetting in BU. No need to overslot stamina or EE to shove in doctored or efficiency adapt.

Swift is overslotted. Mud pots is a mess. Stamina is eating up way too many slots... Honestly, I would do a few searches for stone armor builds and poach slotting from them if I were you, because this build probably needs reworking from ground up.

I really think a lot of your slotting issues stems from not spending a lot of time playing that brute. For example, you really won't be running around with rooted on most of the time, so it's rather silly to slot those uniques there. You're also overslotting powers you'll never use!

You really should take a fresh look at the build. Here's a new build for you to compare with. It costs more, but is much more efficient. The recharge you get from multiple LOTG's can be earned over time doing strike forces, which you probably will be able to manage being a sturdy stone brute. I dropped a few things from your build. You don't need superspeed because it doesn't WORK in granite.

I would recommend increasing your survivability. If you're looking to run AE, then increasing your S/L def would be a very good thing, and that means looking at the Kinetic Combat Set. Recharge will come in time.

A stone brute would not be my brute of choice for TV, because when it comes to nemesis, what matters more is regen or healing, due to their stacking of vengeance. Now, this stone brute would be perfectly happy in AE, but you'll see that even granite can take a beating on TV.

The Differences:

1) I grabbed chain induction and dropped Jacob's Ladder. This let me slot in some kinetic combat sets to increase your S/L defense. If you can't afford those just yet, buy Focused Smite. It offers half the defense (or slot a crushing in the mean time).

2) I dropped Super Speed because you can't use it while in granite.

3) I reduced powers that were over-slotted. Tough doesn't need 6 slots. The only reason I have 5 slots is because of that steadfast 3% IO. It's a nice IO. Oh, and your rooted was waaaaay overslotted. I've reduced it to functional to focus on other sets. Same with stamina. I see what you were doing, but if you compare builds, this is only -2.5% recharge w/o hasten/FF proc, whereas yours is -21.2%.

4) Taunt - well, I really do like taunt sets personally, but I just couldn't sacrifice that many slots on that build. My mace/stone slotted both taunt and provoke, but had a lot of slots available to pull it off so I could hit some defense soft-caps and dig myself out of that negative recharge.

While I personally would spend a lot more time tweaking this build to be happy with it, it is a lot closer to what you want.
