Patron Power for War Mace Brutes?

Hi, I've been considering what Patron Power I'd want to take for my War Mace/Shield brute, and, of the 4 options, Black Scorpion's appeal to me the most.

However, would having Arachnos mace powers mean that everytime I use it I would have to draw the mace out, shoot it, and then draw out my WAR mace and hit things with it? Or would I get an option to simply use the Arachnos mace model for my war mace?

On another note, any of the other Patron pools usable without having to put my mace away? Or should I simply skip Patron pools altogether?

I think this is a question for Brute section.

Nope you will have to put your mace away sorry.
Don't think it will lets you use the Arachnos model and not have to put away your mace and then get that same mace out to use.
You should ask yourself if you want a patron pool because not everyone chooses a patron power pool. Hope I helped!

The Arachnos maces actually use an entirely separate base weapon model from the war maces; each has a few different skins, but the Arachnos mace shoots lasers from the top and has different attributes than the conventional ones do. Back Alley Brawler has some ideas rumbling around that may remove the need for weapon redraw entirely between powers utilizing different weapon types at some point in the not-all-that-distant future, but no, you can not start using the Arachnos mace as your full-time bonking stick unless you make a Bane spider.

Similarly, using powers from any other patron pool (or generic power pool, or activated power from your secondary, or temp powers...) will force you to put your mace away for a moment, so there isn't all that much advantage in not having to pull out the alternate mace.

Black Scorpion may still be a perfectly valid Patron for your brute, despite this. The advantages of each patron are largely dependant on your particular powerset pairing and playstyle, but if you like the theme and the general idea, no one is saying you can't use two different maces to mess people up with.

Rule number six of an empathy defender is NEVER underestimate a blaster's ability to die. I don't care if he has CM, Fort, both RAs, bubbles (both FF and Sonic), and is fighting next to a Storm defender with hurricane on. If there is a way to die in that situation, the blaster will find it.

From a raw unadulterated powergaming perspective, Ghost Widow so you can get Darkest Night is a fantastic option for Mace/Shield. It becomes a fast and easy way to pull groups into your whirling maw of AoE death, and provides a nice synergy of Defense and -toHit

In my opinion, the best patron to take for Brutes is Fighting.

Going to back Lemur Lad here with a nod to Dispari.

A shield brute with tough, weave and darkest night is going to be a happy brute.

Be well, people of CoH.

Thanks for the replies! Yes, I have been dabbing into the fighting pool since level 26 and I just got Tough at 28, which saw my sometime squishy brute's survivability shot up by ALOT.

Darkest Night sounds good... as it's basically the only Patron toggle available to brutes anyway, and since I don't plan on picking up taunt, 1 more taunt aura certainly sounds good to me.
