Like Nvidia 3D vision? Looks like AMD cards could be getting it for games next year.

Several gamers buy Nvidia graphics cards for the Nvidia 3D vision treatment. While TriDef and Iz3D work on ATi cards... Nvidia's Polarized Kit is reported to be a better out of the box solution.

Well, as of next year, Nvidia won't be the only graphics card vendor with polarized 3D stereoscopic technology for the home market. AMD will be showing off Blu-Ray playback using existing Polarized kit at January's CES, on existing RadeonHD graphics cards.

No timeline has been given as to when exactly the kit, and drivers, will be made available to home users, or what graphics cards will be required. It's still something to think about though if your looking at setting up a Stereoscopic rig to play with.

Thanks for the post. I'm really interested in this stuff, ever since I was able to get in and play Resident Evil 5 in 3D at this year's San Diego Comic-Con (using Nvidia's 3D setup)... AMAZING immersive experience.

I'll definitely be staying tuned to see what happens next.

I just got an AMD Radeon HD 6970 (Sapphire), but haven't had the chance to explore the possibility using stereoscopic mode (?) with CoH, since I have a 3D HDTV w/ glasses.

Is this something the video card does on its own, or does the game have to have been coded for it?

NCSoft, Please reconsider your decision to close down CoH. It has an extremely loyal following and enjoys a great amount of free support from the larger community.

I invite everybody to add the above image to your signature as a petition to reverse NCSoft's decision.

One hell of a necro-post. Mod05 will likely be along shortly to close this one up. Also, it was superseded by another thread late last year:

To directly answer your question, Stereoscopic 3D is something the DRIVER does.

Currently none of the existing Stereoscopic 3D drivers from Nvidia, IZ3D, or Tri-Def support OpenGL 3.x targets as used in City of Heroes.

IZ3D says support could be arriving this year for OpenGL 3.x targets, and gamers interested in Stereoscopic 3D are encouraged to contact IZ3D about their desire for such support.
